Dear Mr. President:
Please accept this letter as my resignation from the United States District Court for the Middle
District of Tennessee, effective April
15, 2017.
In
2011,
President Obama placed his trust in me. It has been my great honor to serve this nation and the citizens of Tennessee as a federal judge, and, since
2014,
the District s Chief Judge. Having
worked in all three branches of government, first as a sailor in the U.S. Navy, then as a lawyer for the
U.S. Congress Office of Compliance, and now as a member of the judiciary, I have witnessed the
dedication and sacrifice of the men and women who have chosen to put country above self. They have inspired me and, I hope, made me a better citizen. As I return to private practice, I will continue to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. I thank the citizens and leaders of our country for allowing me to playa small
role in driving this nation forward.
Sincerely,
a
