Agriculture could play a critical role in unleashing Africa’s development potential, including assuring the continent’s food security and boosting youth employment rates. African women, who comprise more than half of the farmers on the continent, are the backbone of the agricultural sector. Any strategies to transform the sector should seek to address the key obstacles confronting them, including weak land security and tenure and poor access to finance, extension services, and agricultural inputs.
