movement

a

mixed

range

far-left

political

ideologies,

anti-

anarchism,with

unifying

goal

to

fight

against

fascism

through

protests

direct

confrontations;

have

turned

violent

in

several

instances.

origins

of

ANTIFA

can

be

traced

back

to

anti-fascist

movements

in

Italy

and

Germany

in

theearly

Current

anti-fascists

movements

have

taken

on

the

name

“Antifaschistishe

Aktion”

and

image

of

post-World

War

II

European

ANTIFA.

In

the

United

States,

ANTIFA

gained

newprominence

after

the

white

supremacist-affiliated

“Unite

theRight”

rally

in

Charlottesville,

VA,

in

August

2017.8

In

Charlottesville

and

at

subsequent

eventsheld

by

white

supremacist

extremists

or

merely

right-wing

protestors,

encounters

between
