DIRECTIVE PURPOSE:
This directive establishes the procedure to be followed for all department responses including emergency and non-emergency responses. The intent of this directive is to reduce accidents and create a safe response.
SCOPE:
This directive applies to all members of the Hartford Fire Department.
PROCEDURE:
 
Emergency Response:
 
All members will be seated; seat belts will be buckled at all times.
 
All visual and audible devices will be used.
 
All emergency vehicles will stop at all controlled intersections.
Non-Emergency Response:
A non-emergency response will be considered one of the following:
 
Water leak
 
Bomb scare
 
When companies are responding to anther station to cover another company
 
When returning from alarms.

Discretionary Response:
Response (Emergency or Non-Emergency) to these types of incidents will be at the discretion of the officer in charge of the unit responding. Response type will be dependent upon previously known information and/or information received prior to or while en-route to the incident:
 
Lock-out of any nature
 
Dumpster fire
 
Wires down in street
 
Smoke in the area
 
Police assist
 
Outside rubbish
 
Elevator rescue
