County Executive Alsobrooks,Yesterday, many of the 338 new Maryland taxes and fees took effect. I am writing you today toask you to reverse your support of these new tax and fee hikes and stand with your constituentsby joining with me to oppose them. The burden of these regressive taxes and fees will be paid by the struggling Marylanders whocan least afford them. With Maryland families already facing the unaffordable cost of living, thisis the last thing they need right now. Here are just a few examples of these regressive taxes and fees:● A 60% to 75% increase on car registration that could hike the cost of buying a usedvehicle by thousands of dollars● Fees on barbers and salons● Tax on paint cans● Tax on Uber rides● Increases in fees for cosmetologists, electricians, and plumbers and apprenticeships● A fee for changing your address As a result of the massive deficit in Prince George’s County, you have been openly talking aboutraising county taxes. On the campaign trail, you have been campaigning on a promise to raiseMarylanders Social Security taxes. It is simply unconscionable that you would supportsubjecting your constituents to tax hikes on the local, state, and federal levels. This is not a Democratic or Republican issue. This is about doing the right thing for Maryland. The affordability crisis impacts everyone in our state. At this critical time, Marylanders deserveleaders who are willing to stand up to the party bosses to fight for them. That is what I willalways do, and I hope you will join me in that fight.I look forward to your response.Sincerely,Larry Hogan62nd Governor of Maryland
