Can the video game Dance Dance Fever prevent seniors from falling?

It's possible. AT&T researchers joined with hardware/software developer 24Eight, to see if technology from their dance game could be useful in predicting a patient’s risk for falling. The result is 24Eight’s “Smart Slipper,” inner soles that can determine if a patient’s balance is deteriorating and whether they are heading for a fall. The insoles, now in clinical trial driven by AT&T Labs, are designed to help doctors assess a patient’s risk of falling and know when it may be time to restrict elderly patients to wheelchairs before they hurt themselves.
