CREW: House Ethics Committee: Regarding Rep. Cunningham Ethics Violations

On July 15, 2005, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) released a complaint against Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham. Following Rep. Cunningham’s announcement that he would not seek re-election, CREW urged the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct to launch its own investigation into Cunningham’s activities. Melanie Sloan, CREW’s executive director, said “the House should not wait to see if Cunningham is indicted to take action against him. We expect Members to adhere to a standard of conduct higher than merely avoiding indictment. Rep. Cunningham’s conduct clearly violates the rules of the House, which should compel the ethics committee to act.”
