CREW: DOJ: Request for Further Investigation Into Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL)

On February 13, 2012, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI to investigate Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) for new crimes, in addition to those already the subject of a DOJ investigation. The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) recently forwarded a report to the House Ethics Committee for further inquiry after finding reason to believe Rep. Buchanan had failed to include positions he held and income he had received on his personal financial disclosure forms (PFDs). Intentionally filing false PFDs is a criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison as well as a violation of House ethics rules.
