CREW: Department of the Army: Regarding PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury Diagnoses

On March 13, 2012, CREW sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Department of the Army seeking documents related to Army guidance concerning the diagnoses of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). CREW made this request in the wake of revelations concerning Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington, the home base of the soldier accused of fatally shooting 16 Afghan civilians. According to news reports, there are systemic problems at the base with under-diagnosing both PTSD and TBI and making alternative, less costly diagnoses.
