Achievement Motivation
Key word- Competitiveness The degree to which a person has the motivation to approach and achieve success in sport

Achievement motivation links personality with the degree of competitiveness shown by an individual. Its main focus is the extent to which an individual is motivated to attain success. Murray (1938) believed that a competitive inclination is a product of nature. Bandura (1977) believed that a competitive drive was a product of learning.

Atkinson and McClelland (1976)

Predicts that achievement motivation is generated through a combination of personality and situational factors. They view achievement motivation as a personality trait which is activated by a situation. The situation comprises the probability of success and the incentive value of success.
Probability of successThe extend to which success is likely. If the task is found easy success is more likely to happen. The degree of pleasure experienced when success is achieved. The harder the task the greater the incentive value.
