It contains all the information about all material that a Company Procures or Produces or Stores and even sells.
It is the central source for retrieving material specific data of an Organization Used to manage the material stored in a Data Record sorted by various character.

Need Of Material Master

Purpose:-

The material master is used by all components in the SAP Logistics System like Warehouse Management (WM) Production Planning (PP) Quality Management (QM) The integration of all material data in a single database object eliminates redundant data storage.

Creating a Material Master Record

There are two ways of creating a material master record:

A new material master record is created with or without reference. It is mainly the responsibility of materials management to create new material master records in the system.
An existing material master record is extended by creating new segments for other company areas. Thus, a view which has not yet been maintained is added to the material master record.
