INTRODUCTION
It is a story of a baseball player who goes on

to be the general manager of the Oakland Athletics. It is one of the poorest teams in baseball. Under Billy Beanes transformational leadership, they go on and defeat many of the other teams which are far richer than itself. He deviates from the general belief and applies science such as statistics objectively with the help of Paul Depodesta, a Harvard Graduate.

Initiatiating Structure : Billy Beane had a

defined structure and identified the different roles each player would fit in.

Consideration : Billy Beane had a large say

in the the kind of team he wanted to have. He was allowed to build the team without any interference. Billy Beanes behaviour was a mix of both Initiation as well as Consideration.

PERCEPTION
Players were selected based solely on the perception of their potential by the scouts.
SELECTIVE PERCEPTION : Baseball players

were evaluated on just certain parameters and not everything was taken into account.

STEREOTYPING : A player having physical

problems was not meant to be suitable for baseball.

LEARNINGS
If we view Billy Beanes career he was

motivated to play baseball due to the hygiene factors rather than motivational factors. It was due to this reason that he actually could not transform himself at the highest level. During his tenure as a baseball General Manager he liked the job he was in, and it was more motivational than the hygiene factors at work. Once we understand the motivating factors, 1/23/13 we find our jobs interesting as well as

LEARNINGS
It is very aptly said by Billy Beane, I did it

once for money, would never do it again. Thus the right motivation is needed for a person to succeed in his job
