"Colonel" Harland David Sanders (September 9, 1890 – December 16, 1980) was an American restaurateur who founded the Kentucky

Fried Chicken(KFC) fast food chain. Harland David Sander had a hard time selling his chicken at first. In fact , his famous secret chicken recipe was rejected 1,009 TIMES before a restaurant accepted it.

Kentucky. Sanders opened a service station in Corbin. later Harland Sanders Café and Museum. Sanders was given the honorary title "Kentucky Colonel" in 1935 by Governor Ruby Laffoon. Since he did not have a restaurant. Always an avid cook. he puts his talents to use and starts to serve his take on southern fried chicken to the public. His local popularity grew.IN 1930 Harland was 40. he served customers in his adjacent living quarters. Kentucky where he cooked chicken dishes and other meals such as country ham and steaks for customers. . and Sanders moved to a motel and 142 seat restaurant. Over the next nine years he developed his "secret recipe" for frying chicken in a pressure fryer that cooked the chicken much faster than pan frying. He buys a roadside Motel and Cafe in Corbin.

IN 1939 Food critic Duncan Hines visited Sanders’s restaurant incognito and was so impressed he listed the place in “Adventures in Good Eating. .” his famous guide to restaurants throughout the US. Ruby Laffoon commissions Harland as ''Kentucky Colonel'' for outstanding achievement in the community.

he takes his first social security check. The restaurant closes and at 65 Harland has to start again from scratch. Down.IN 1955 Disaster strikes: Interstate 75 opens up and sucks away trade. but not out. pressure fryer and recipe. and sets out to sell the idea of southern fried chicken .
