DGFT or Directorate General of Foreign Trade is a government organization in India responsible for the formulation of EXIM guidelines and principles for Indian importers and Indian exporters of the country.  Before 1991, DGFT was known as the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports (CCI&E).  DGFT is the nodal body formulating the Export Import Policy.

The RAs under DGFT have direct role in issuing Status Certificates recognizing the exporters as Export House(EH). Vishesh Krishi and Gram Upaj Yojana (VKGUY) scrips  . Star Export House(SEH) .Trading House(TH).Star Trading House(STH) and Premier Trading House (PTH)  The RAs under DGFT have direct role in issuing various Duty Free Scrips under chapter-3 of FTP like Focus Market Scheme (FMS). Focus Product Scheme (FPS).

The RAs under DGFT have direct role in issuing EPCG (Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme) Authorisations under chapter-5 of the FTP/HBP which allow import of capital goods at zero/3 percent duty subject to Export obligation to be fulfilled as per conditions laid down in the FTP/HBP  . If it comes to DGFT’s notice or he has reason to believe that an export or import has been made in a manner that (i) is gravely prejudicial to trade relations of India with any other country. Regional Sub-Committee on Quality Complaints (RSCQC) set up at Regional Offices of this Directorate shall investigate quality complaints received from foreign buyers. and / or (ii) is gravely prejudicial to interest of other persons engaged in exports or imports. Rules and Orders made there-under and FTP  . and / or (iii) has brought disrepute to the country. DGFT may take action against such exporter or importer in accordance with FT(D&R) Act.
