RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH PROBLEM The load shedding in Tamilnadu has been increasing drastically in the last two years

LITERATURE REVIEW

What are the different sources of electricity? How is electricity generated? Existing power generation units in Tamilnadu Role of coal in power generation?
Interaction with rural and urban consumers Interaction with TNEB officials

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

What is the reason behind the load shedding in Tamilnadu? What is the gap between demand and supply of power? Is it possible to overcome this gap?

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

To determine the reasons behind the increased load shedding in Tamilnadu To propose ways to bridge the gap between demand and supply

RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

Inaccurate forecasting of annual demand Poor quality of coal used Inadequate allocation from the central grid Existing plants not being run to their full potential

RESEARCH DESIGN

To take coal samples from the different plants for testing To determine the variables and the extent to which they influence the power generation (regression analysis) To find the deviation between supply and demand for the past 3 years

DATA COLLECTION

What is the total demand for electricity in TN? What is the current electricity production? How much of that is provided by the Centre? How much power is generated from the other different sources? What is the annual increase in demand? How is this increase forecasted? What are the steps taken each year to meet this increase? Where is the coal imported from? How much is imported? How is the quality tested? Is the quality satisfactory? What are the proposed power projects? Are they sufficient to meet increasing demand?
