• Opposition =
disagreement of propositions having the same subject + same predicate as regards to quantity and quality

Parts of the Opposition  Contradictory proposition = Propositions having the Same Subject + Same Predicate but differ in quantity and quality .

Contradictory Proposition • All philosophers are wise. (O proposition) . (A proposition) = contradicts • Some philosophers are not wise.

Contradictory Propositions A Proposition Subject = philosopher • Predicate = wise • Quality = are (affirmative) • Quantity = All (universal) O Proposition • Subject =philosopher • Predicate = wise • Quality = are not (negative) • Quantity = Some ( particular) .

Square of oppositions • A O .

• Subject = philosophers • Predicate = wise • Quality = are not (negative) • Quantity = all (universal) I propositions • Some philosophers are wise.Contradictory propositions E propositions • All philosophers are not wise. • Subject = philosophers • Predicate = wise • Quality = are (affirmative) • Quantity = some (particular) .

Contradictory propositions » E I .

Contrary Oppositions • Propositions having = same subject + the same predicate and have universal extension but differ as to quality • (A and E) .
