GIS- GAS INSULATED SWITCHGEAR SUBSTATION
 Gas insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation Offers many advantages over

conventional substation. A primary advantage is its compactness pronounced. It requires less field construction because of its modular design which results in quicker installation time. It has reduced maintenance and hence requires lesser man power. It provides high reliability and safety.

MAJOR GIS COMPONENTS
             

Circuit breaker. Circuit breaker operating drive. Circuit breaker operating mechanism. Disconnector. Earth switch. Fast acting earth switch. Current transformer. Voltage transformer Bushing with composite insulator. Surge arrester. Density monitor. Pressure relief device. SF6 gas. Conductor. Insulators.

Only indicated or designated lifting point should be allowed to secure safe working and to avoid any damages of products or accessories. Also the using rope should have enough strength (capacity) against weight of packed items. be careful to avoid any damages for the products or accessories caused by unreasonable handling. a crane having enough capacity for lifting of the products should be selected taking into account of the weight. and then the working should be allowed.  During loading or unloading the sudden impacts should be forbidden.  Paying attention to the treatment notice written in the manual of packed items or instruction manual.  Recheck the safety control is complete. the hooking condition including wire rope etc. . In advance consider the weight of products or packed items  Before loading or unloading. on the product or packed item shall be checked.Installation Procedure of Circuit Breaker  First of all. On-deginated lifting position (point) of packed items or products should be forbidden.

Equipment for Breaker Erection .

. often mounted along the side walls or on elevated columns in the assembly area of factory.  Some of these cranes can lift very heavy loads. only the hoist / trolley assembly moves in one direction along one or two fixed beams.Over Head Crane  Overhead crane : Also known as a 'suspended crane'. this type of crane work very similar to a gantry crane but instead of the whole crane moving.

 Their main advantage is that they can move around on site and perform each lift with little set-up.  Crawler cranes have both advantages and disadvantages depending on their use.Crawler Crane for Erection  A crawler is a crane mounted on an undercarriage with a set of tracks (also called crawlers) that provide stability and mobility.  Crawler cranes range in lifting capacity from about 40 US tons to 3500 US tons. since the crane is stable on its tracks with no outriggers. .

flexible grease hoses and moveable drain containers.Crane Maintenance  An organization with reliable maintenance engineers should be formed to do this important job. a well equipped workshop will be the best place to concentrate all important maintenance jobs.  Discipline is needed to carry out regular inspections at the right time and with the necessary care and attention.  Movable platforms which can surround the taller equipment such as straddle carriers can be useful. as can moveable grease guns with long. .  For rolling equipment like straddle carriers and AGV’s (Automated Guided Vehicles).

 Loads suspended directly aft are the most stable. these cranes are able to travel on highways. since most of the weight of the crane acts as a counterweight.  Outriggers are extended horizontally from the chassis then vertically to level and stabilize the crane while stationary and hoisting.  Generally. eliminating the need for special equipment to transport the crane.5 US tons to about 1300 US tons.  Truck cranes range in lifting capacity from about 14.  Most cranes of this type also have moving counterweights for stabilization beyond that provided by the outriggers.Mobile Cranes  Truck mounted: crane mounted on a truck carrier provides the mobility for this type of crane.  .

and high speed earthing switch motor drive spring charged operating mechanism. Each earthing switch will be fully insulated and the connection to ground brought out by means of an insulating bushing in order that the earthing switch may be used for test purposes. . A removable bond will be provided for connecting the insulating bushing to the plant ground terminal. All earthing switches must be fully interlocked with the associated circuit breaker and disconnecting switches.Installation Procedure  All disconnecting switches and maintenance earthing switches     should be be provided with motor driven operating mechanism. They will also have facilities for manual operation and necessary operating handles will be provided.

EARTH SWITCH .

Fork Lifts for Disconnector & Earth switch .

 Forklifts are rated for loads at a specified maximum weight and a specified forward centre of gravity. A forklift should not be used as a personnel lift without the fitting of specific safety equipment. load does not butt against the fork "L"). such as a "cherry picker" or "cage" . The forklift are designed with a load limit for the forks which is decreased with fork elevation and undercutting of the load (i. A loading plate for loading reference is usually located on the forklift.e. A forklift must never negotiate a turn at speed with a raised load.  The forklift and load must be considered a unit with a continually varying centre of gravity with every movement of the load. where centrifugal and gravitational forces may combine to cause a disastrous tip-over accident.

CURRENT TRANSFORMER .

1) Insulate all leads so that they will not contact with any other leads or ground parts. The following caution must be observed in       connection and in service. . 4) The secondary terminals must be closed through a burden or by the short-circuiting lead. 3) Never open the secondary circuit while the CT is in operation because the core will be permanently saturated and induced high voltages dangerously on secondary circuit. 2) Ground one side of the secondary circuit unless doing so that will interfere with the proper operation of instruments.

usually on the parallel side walls of a factory or similar large industrial building.Installation Using EOT crane  EOT cranes lift objects by a hoist which is fitted in a hoist trolley and can move horizontally on a rail or pair of rails fitted under a beam. so that the whole crane can move the length of the building while the hoist can be moved to and fro across the width of the building. also known as an overhead crane or as a suspended crane. has the ends of the supporting beam resting on wheels running on rails at high level. .  An overhead travelling crane.

Bus Bar – Conductor & Contact Plug .

 Installation of IPBD enclosures and bus bars and insulators.Installation Procedure  Level and alignment of the foundations of IPBD supporting structure and of GIS building wall crossing structure. Check for provision of gas seals at all flanged joints.  Installation of the supporting structure of IPBD and checks for its level and alignment. .

check for proper part number of the bus component Check the orientation of enclosure is as per detailed drawing . bus bar & insulator for cleanliness.Installation Procedure Of Busbar. Identification of bus section between first installed bay and second bay to be installed is done. Check for proper opening of the cases of bus enclosures in loading bay.e. Check the enclosure. Check that the enclosure is lifted by EOT crane and shift near the bus and the phase (of 1st installed bay) for which it is meant i.

making it vertical from horizontal position using crane and adjustment by chain pulley block  Check for tightness of structure after erection of bushing .Installation Procedure Of Insulators  Carry out assembly of structure and that the mounting bolts are kept loose  Check for proper tying of textile slings and chain pulley block for lifting the bushing  Proper lifting of bushing.

Chain Pulley Block For Erection of Insulators .

 A rope.Chain Pulley Block  A pulley. or realize a mechanical advantage in either a linear or rotational system of motion. if present. Pulleys are used to change the direction of an applied force transmit rotational motion.  Two or more pulleys together are called a block and tackle . cable or belt or chain usually runs over the wheel and inside the groove. also called a sheave or a drum. It is one of the six simple machines. is a mechanism composed of a wheel on an axle or shaft that may have a groove between two flanges around its circumference.
