IBM India has been rewarded with The Golden Peacock award 2010 for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in India. IBM India is the first IT Company to have received the prestigious award in the corporate social responsibility space ever since these awards were instituted. IBM has devised a new approach called collaborative citizenship and is working along with its employees and partners to leverage IBMs unique capabilities and expertise to more effectively address deep-rooted social and economic challenges IN THE FIELD OF

'The World Community Grid' program.

Through the World Community Grid, PC owners are able to donate their idle computing time for research with a philanthropic or humanitarian purpose, conducted by public and notfor-profit organizations, with the results available in the public domain. With World Community Grid, they are harnessing the power of grid computing technology to tackle projects for the benefit of humanity

ENVIRONMENT
IBM is committed to environmental leadership in all of its business activities, from its operations to the design of its products and use of its technology. IBM's corporate policy on environmental affairs, is the key element of the company's efforts to achieve results consistent with environmental leadership and ensures the company is vigilant in protecting the environment across all of its operations worldwide. 11 Jul 2012 - IBM announced that it has successfully demonstrated conformance of its energy management program IBM became the first company in North America to achieve ISO 50001 certification, within one year of the release of the standard, by Bureau Veritas Certification.

Education:

The Reinventing Education programme in India is specially designed to align with the National goals for education reform as articulated in the National Curriculum Framework 2005 (NCF 2005). The KidSmart program currently being implemented in seven states.

KidsSmart program
The program developed by IBM and shaped by partners provides educational technology designed specifically to advance the skills young children need to thrive in schools. In partnership with the State Governments, The Promise Foundation, The Byrraju Foundation .

IBM has been able to provide over 2000 'Young Explorer' units designed for the lesser-privileged preschool children in 200 schools. . Teachers at these centers are trained on specially developed training modules using technology to develop children's basic language, mathematics and science skills.

Socio-economic development
. In India, so far 40 IBM employees from 19 countries have worked with nine NGOs and government organizations in a series of projects to help leading agencies and NGOs to address some of Indias most pressing socio-economic and development issues, such as better access to markets for farmers and craftsperson's enablement of entrepreneurs and ability to scale their operations to increase social and economic impact.

Disaster management & relief:

SAHANA is a suite of web based sub-applications that provides solution to different problems with regard to the information required for managing certain coordination problems during post-disaster. SAHANA, was leveraged in different forms during Gujarat earthquake, Tsunami in South India and Bihar Floods.

IBM has always believed in using their core competency - the technology to help solve some of the key issues of the society. Reading Companion is a program to increase literacy among children and adults. It is a speech recognition technology for the classroom. Accessibility is a program designed specially to make technology accessible to groups who are conventionally not associated with using technology physically /mentally challenged, socially /economically backward people. For example, IBM India supported the entire hardware and software requirements for the computer centers at the Victoria Memorial School for the Blind in Mumbai, Mitra Jyothi - IBM Centre for People with Disabilities in Bangalore and IETE-IBM computer centre, Noida all of which are dedicated to providing IT skills to visually impaired people.

Women in Technology Initiatives (WIT)

The goals of the WIT are to support the advancement and recognition of IBMs female technical talent, to attract and recruit more qualified technical women to IBM, to enhance IBMs image regarding women in technology, and to work with outside organizations to influence the decisions of girls and young women to pursue education and careers in science and technology.

Workforce Flexibility Initiatives


Workforce Flexibility is a global initiative to help IBMers find more balance between their work and personal lives. A key part of this program revolves around Flexible Work Options. Medical camp and cleanliness drive:


Prayaas, adopted Tanda village for social transformation. Engaged resident in cleanliness drive to prevent malaria. Free camp for eye and general medical check up. Medicines were distributed free of cost. Collected data on health and sanitation related issue to address them.

Educare :
Sneham, local CSR team. Intranet portal to help in children education of there housekeeping and security staff. 15000 member contributed approx. Rs1400000 for 370 Students

Helping the visually challenged :


Partner with Nethrodaya, NGO for visually challenged children. Volunteers conduct weekend reading sessions. Inter state sport festival in modified version of cricket, volleyball etc.

Facilities for rural schools:


Volunteers constructed a water tank for 1000 students of Avanippoor Govt. School. They have been donating stationary to Anoor school.

Mysore
Language and computer education:
Soften, our local CSR team. Distributed stationary to under Underprivileged students from various schools. Basic computer education and English language skills were imparted to the security guards housekeeping staff.

Summer camp:
A workshop was conducted at Karunya Mane, a child rehabilitation center. childrens were taught art and craft, dance, Math, English, environment awareness, traffic rules, health and fitness, and social etiquette. Quiz contests helped the children assess their general knowledge.

Blood donation:
More than 80 Info scions donated blood in a special camp conducted in collaboration with the Mysore Rotary and Chandrakala Hospital.

School for dropouts:


with Kaliyuva Mane, an informal school for dropouts run by the Divya Deepa Trust.

Nanhi Kali WeKare

Project Nanhi Kali was initiated in 1996 by the K C Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) with the aim of providing primary education to underprivileged girl children in India. He believed that empowering the girl child with education would result in huge benefits for the nation in the long term Anand Mahindra began Nanhi Kali, a sponsorship program, where individuals could support the education of a girl child in India.

Capgemini have a strong partnership with the Naandi Foundations Nanhi Kali initiative in India. The Nanhi Kali program is focused on sponsoring girls education, a group who are often discriminated against. Our partnership offers Indian girls dignity, education, equality and empowerment: the same attributes that our people seek for themselves from the company they work for. It is about changing the way we think, fostering multiculturalism as we become a truly open and diverse company, and about changing the lives of the girls we support.

The sole intent of this initiative is to give back to the society and is not aimed at any other business objective. All activities under this project are subjected to seamless communication and total transparency with all associates in the organization. Capgemini and its division actively participate in PlaNet Finance, an international non-profit organization created to help the world's poorest people fulfill their professional economic potential through micro financing. Their involvement in PlaNet Finance goes beyond financial support: They also provide technological expertise and critical IT systems support enabling PlaNet Finance to invest more time and money in microfinance initiatives. when the floods hit

Mumbai on July 26, 2005, Each member of the Capgemini staff gave up a days salary to support the victims. Capgemini financed the construction of a medical camp as well as the purchase of school uniforms and back-packs for the children who were most affected by the disaster.
