Surah Al-E-Imran

2:154

Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allh as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision- (3:169)

Imam Ahmad reported that `Abdur-Rahman bin Ka`b bin Malik narrated from his father that Allah's Messenger said: The believer's soul is a bird that feeds on the trees of Paradise until Allah sends it back to its body when the person is resurrected.
Ahmad

This Hadith includes all the believers in its general meaning. Thus, the fact that the Qur'an mentions the martyrs in particular in the above Ayah serves to honor, glorify and favor them (although the other believers share the rewards they enjoy).
Ibn Kathir

2:154
The souls of the martyrs are inside green birds and move about in Paradise wherever they wish. Then, they take refuge in lamps that are hanging under the Throne (of Allah). Your Lord looked at them and asked them, `What do you wish for' They said, `What more could we wish for while You have favored us with what You have not favored any other of your creation' He repeated the question again. When they realize that they will be asked (until they answer), they said, `We wish that You send us back to the earthly life, so that we fight in Your cause until we are killed in Your cause again,' (because of what they enjoy of the rewards of martyrdom). The Lord then said, `I have written that they will NOT be returned to it (earthly life) again.
Muslim/ Ibn Kathir.

Surah Al-Mumenoon "So that I may do good in that which I have left behind!" No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected. (23:100)

Barzakh ( is a Persian and Arabic Word meaning "obstacle", "hindrance", "separation",or "barrier". Al-Barzakh is generally viewed as the barrier between the physical and spiritual worlds, in which the soul awaits after death and before resurrection on Qiyamah.

Who is a Martyr?
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW)said: "Whom do you reckon to be martyr amongst you?'' The Companions replied: "The one who is killed in Allah's way.'' He (SAW) said, "In that case, the martyrs among my people would be few.'' The Companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Then who are the martyrs?'' He (SAW) replied, "He who is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr; he who dies naturally in the Cause of Allah is a martyr; he who dies of plague is a martyr; and he who dies of a belly disease is a martyr; and he who is drowned is a martyr.'' [Muslim]
Riyad-us-Saliheen Hadith No : 1354

2:154

Anas (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "He who goes forth in search of knowledge is considered as struggling in the Cause of Allah until he returns.' [At-Tirmidhi].

Ayahs about Death

Surah Al-E-Imran

2:154

Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing). )(3:185

Surah Al-Jumua

Say, Indeed, the death from which you (try to) run away has to visit you, then you will be sent back to the Knower of the Unseen and the seen, and He will tell you what you used to )do. (62:8

Ayahs about the Day of Judgment

2:154

And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Approaching Day, when hearts are at the throats, filled [with distress]. For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed. (Ghaafir 40:18)

( )

And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be aided. (Al-Baqarah 2:48)

On the Day a man will flee from his brother, And his mother and his father, And his wife and his children. Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. (Abasa 80:34-37)

2:154 Immediately after the death of 'Uthman Ibn Mazun, before his funeral, the Prophet went with 'A'ishah to visit Khawlah, and 'A'ishah said afterwards:

"The Prophet kissed 'Uthman when he was dead, and I saw his tears flowing over 'Uthman's cheek.
At his funeral the Prophet heard an old woman address the dead man with the words, "Be glad, 0 father of Sa'ib, for Paradise is thine. "The Prophet turned to her somewhat sharply and said: "What giveth thee to know that? "0 Messenger of God, she protested, "it is Abu s-Sa'ib!" "By God, he said, "we know naught but good of him. Then, to make it clear that his first remark had been in no sense directed against 'Uthman but merely against her for saying more than she had right to say he turned to her again and added: "It would have been enough for thee to say: "He loved God and His messenger.'
Muhammad (SAW)-Martin Lings & Kitab At Tabaqaat Al Kabir-Muhammad Ibn Sad

2:154

Umar(RA) confessed to having been somewhat shaken in his high regard for his brother-in-law by the fact that he had not been blessed with a martyr's death. He said: "When 'Uthman ibn Mazun died without being slain, he fell immeasurably from my esteem and I said: 'Behold this man who was severest of us all in abstaining from the things of this world, and now he hath died and was not slain.' And so he remained in 'Umar's opinion until the Prophet(SAW) and Abu Bakr had both died natural deaths, and he upbraided himself for having lacked a true sense of values, and said to himself: "Out upon thee, the best of us die! he meant "die naturally" and 'Uthman returned in his estimation to the place he had formally held

Surah Al-Baqara

To Allh belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth, and whether you disclose what is in your ownselves or conceal it, Allh will call you to account for it. Then He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allh is Able )to do all things. (2:284

Hadith Al Qudsi 2:154 Narrated Abu Huraira (RA) When this verse was revealed to Allah's Messenger (SAW) The narrator said: The Companions of Allah's Messenger(SAW) felt it hard. They came to him, sat down on their knees and said: 0 Messenger of Allah, we have been assigned with some duties (tasks) which we have capability to perform such as: prayer, fasting , fighting in Allah's way, and charity. Now this (the above mentioned verse) was revealed to you and it is beyond our power to live up to. Then Allah's Messenger (SAW)said: Do you intend to say what the people of the two Scriptures (the Jews and Christians) had said before you: "We hear and disobey". Rather you should say: "We hear, obey and seek your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You is the return". When the people recited it, their tongues became subdued with it. Then Allah revealed: "The Messenger believes in what is sent down to him from His Lord, and so do the believers (following him). Each one believes in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers, saying: We differentiate not between any of His Messengers; and they say: We hear and seek your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You is the return". When they (the Companions) said the same, Allah abrogated this verse and Allah the All-Great, revealed a new one replacing it: "Allah burdens not a soul beyond its capacity. It gets every good that it earns and it suffers every ill that it earns. Our Lord! Punish us not, if we forget or make a mistake". (When they repeated the same words) Allah said: Yes: (The Companions further repeated the words as revealed to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Our Lord! Do not lay on us a burden as that you had laid on those before us. Allah said: Yes: (They further repeated) Our Lord! impose not on us (burdens) which we have no strength to bear. Allah said: Yes: (They further repeated) And pardon us and provide us protection; and have Mercy on us. You are our Patron, so please grant us victory over the disbelieving people". Allah said: Yes: (2:285,6) (Muslim).

Surah Al-Baqara

2:154

The Messenger (Muhammad SAW) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allh, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. (They say), "We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers" and they say, "We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all)." (2:285) Allh burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maul (Patron, Supporter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people." (2:286)

2:154

(39. And that man can have nothing but what he does.)

Verily, the best type of provision that one consumes is from what he himself has earned, and one's offspring are among what he has earned.
Ibn Kathir An Nasai 7:241 When a person dies, his deeds will cease except in three cases: from a righteous son who invokes Allah for him, or an ongoing charity after his death, or knowledge that people benefit from. These three things are, in reality, a result of one's own deeds, efforts and actions.
