U must go back to something!
WHAT ARE THINGS U NEED TO GO BACK TO? You need to go back to something you need to IMPROVE and have an IMPRINT on!

BRIEF Summary
Nehemiah was a Hebrew in Persia when the word reached him that the Temple in Jerusalem was being reconstructed. He grew anxious knowing there was no wall to protect the city.

BRIEF Summary
Nehemiah invited God to use him to save the city. Nehemiah is given permission by the king to return to Jerusalem, where he is made governor. In spite of opposition and accusations the wall was built and the enemies silenced.

BRIEF Summary
The people, inspired by Nehemiah, give tithes of much money, supplies and manpower to complete the wall in a remarkable 52 days, despite much opposition.

BRIEF Summary
This united effort is short-lived, however, because Jerusalem falls back into apostasy when Nehemiah leaves for a while.

After 12 years he returned to find the walls strong but the people weak.

U must go back to something!
WHAT ARE THINGS U NEED TO GO BACK TO? You need to go back to something you need to IMPROVE and have an IMPRINT on!

THERE are things that we should NOT go back to:

SIN, FORGIVEN PAST, THE OLD LIFE …

YET there are things that needs to be REPEATED!

- learning; schooling; training!

YET there are things that needs to be REPEATED!

- vision; purpose; the end from the beginning; foundations!

YET there are things that needs to be REPEATED!

- relationships; investments, commitments; vows; celebrations!

YET there are things that needs to be REPEATED!

- prayer; bible; praise; worship; thanksgivings; rest!

U must go back to something!
WHAT ARE THINGS U NEED TO GO BACK TO? You need to go back to something you need to

IMPROVE and have
an IMPRINT on!

Nehemiah 6:3-4 (NIV) But they were scheming to harm me; so I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?” Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer.

Nehemiah 6:3,4

I have gone BACK … Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you? Nehemiah, using discernment will not only escape their trap; he won’t even be distracted from his work!

Nehemiah 6:3,4

AS YOU GO BACK …
If the enemy can distract God’s people, then he has won; if we can start majoring on minors, and minoring on majors, we’ve lost our effectiveness for the work of the LORD. Nehemiah was persistent in his discernment; the request came four times, and each time Nehemiah stood fast and didn’t fall for it.

Nehemiah 6:3,4

I came BACK for this!
I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you? Discernment gave Nehemiah focus; he knew what God wanted him to be doing and he did it. He wouldn’t be sidetracked by things that sounded good, but weren’t of the LORD for him.

Nehemiah 6:3,4

Anyone doing a work for God must contend with a hundred different noble causes, and a hundred things that might look good - and be good - but they are not what they are called to do at that time. Discernment gives us focus!

ENEMY of the best is _______________________

Nehemiah took on an ambitious project to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He completed the project in just 52 days Nehemiah 6:15

I CAME BACK FOR THIS!

That alone is an amazing feat, but we can’t overlook the fact that the project did not go smoothly. • From the very start Nehemiah
faced severe

opposition.

OPPOSITION by Intimidation
- Nehemiah 2:18-19 SANBALLATS

Opposition by Ridicule
- Nehemiah 4:1-3 The motivation for all these taunts: They were angry that the work was going on!

Opposition by Threats
- Nehemiah 4:7-8 When it was clear that progress was being made, it enraged the enemies further. They did not want hard evidence that they were wrong.

Opposition by Exhaustion
- Nehemiah 4:10-12 The work itself was hard, taxing the strength of those doing the work. But the added pressure of knowing that they could be attacked at any moment was getting to them. Worse, there was no telling from which direction the attack would come.

Opposition by Extortion
- Nehemiah 5:1-5 Enemies to progress are always external. Too often the greater enemy is ourselves. Brethren who take advantage of brother.

Opposition through Compromise
- Nehemiah 6:1-2 Nehemiah’s enemies the work was nearly done, so they sought subterfuge. “Let’s get together and talk.” Nehemiah’s answer - Nehemiah 6:3-4 There wasn’t anything to talk about. To give credence to the request would mean they had something to offer. At best, it would take time away from the labor. At worse, it was a trap. There are innumerable time wasters in the world

Opposition through Slander
- Nehemiah 6:5-7 The attacks become more personal. Either you meet with us or we’ll tell everyone that you are planning to rebel against the king and have people saying you will be king.

Opposition through treachery
- Nehemiah 6:10 A man was hired to get Nehemiah into a compromising position. He tried to get Nehemiah to think someone was about to assassinate him, so he should take refuge in the temple. He even had someone issue a “prophecy” regarding the attempt.
Nehemiah’s response - Nehemiah 6:11-14 Why should someone, who trusts God, hide? - Psalms 11:1 In essence he is say, I rather die working for God, than to preserve my life in fear - Proverbs 28:1

Answering him, Nehemiah realized that this man was a hireling of his enemies.
Nehemiah’s enemies understood that perception can be a weapon

Nehemiah 7:4 (NIV) Now the city was large and spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had not yet been rebuilt

Nehemiah 7:73 (NIV) The priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers and the temple servants, along with certain of the people and the rest of the Israelites, settled in their own towns”

COME ... LIVE INSIDE THE WALL!
Nehemiah is all about building a wall around Jerusalem right? No, only chapters 1-6 are about that. The people existed for the wall in those first few chapters. They gave their time, talents, and treasures to make it happen.

COME ... LIVE INSIDE THE WALL!
But the remaining chapters show the wall existing for the people. It's not about the wall, but about what goes on inside the wall. The city was in ruins. They had a wall to prevent invasion, but inside is rubble, and they are supposed to live and worship there. But they had a grand vision of what it could be once again for the glory of God! (copied)

COME ... LIVE INSIDE THE WALL!
In chapter 7 Nehemiah organizes the people. He is a master administrator, organizer, and leader. It's not enough that they have their wall, they need their life back!
