The department of Cajamarca is located in the norteandina, has mountain and jungle areas. Bordered on the north by Ecuador, to the south with La Libertad, on the west by Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad and the east by Amazon. Its capital Cajamarca is a city located in the Andean valley of the same name, the city is visible from the Santa Apolonia hill. Cajamarca currently represents the core economic, tourism, industrial, commercial, cultural and mining of the northern highlands of Peru.

Cajamarca`s square, is the most important square in South America. Here the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro captured the Inca Atahualpa after a kill that, so far, humanity shudders

It is located 6 km east of the city of Cajamarca.


This is a unique place, as it is rather surprising to learn of the variety of minerals contained in its waters. At the Inca bathing place , the so-called Poza del Inca (Individual Inca Bath) has been preserved intact.

Residents comment on the medicinal or healing properties of these waters, with a temperature of about 70 C. In effect, they are considered ideal to treat some bone diseases and to relax.

Today, the resort receives every day at about four thousand visitors from around the world.

The archaeological remains known as the windows of Otuzco called this way of being in the center town of the same name, belonging to the district of Baos del Inca. The site is approximately 8 kilometers north of the city of Cajamarca, with a height of 2,850 m.s.n.m, the landscape of contours is eucalyptus groves that blend with the green of the cattle area.

Located on the west side of the valley and the city of Cajamarca. The hill of Santa Apolonia is a strategic point to see the city and the valley of Cajamarca. The hill of Santa Apolonia used to be known by the name Rumi Tiana or "Stone Seat". This Silla del Inca was composed of two blocks of stone that emerge of the same hill, which have been carefully carved to give its current form.

In Cajamarca the Inca Atahualpa was captured and to obtain their freedom, he promised to fill once with gold and twice with silver and gemstones as high as his hand reach in the room that he was a prisoner, so that the term becomes "Ransom Room".

The house was probably part of an Inca sun temple, destroyed by the Spanish, and has a stone canal that ran through gurgling with water. It is a precinct of 11.80 meters in length, 7.30 meters in width and 3.1 meters in height. The Rescue Room is located in the city center, is the only trace that remains remarkable Inca Empire and it is the symbol of the encounter between two cultures.
