A model for explaining why and how: People think like they do

People act like they do

People interact/communicate with others

Based on published psychological work such as: Games People Play (Dr. Eric Berne) Im OK - - Youre OK (Dr. Tom Harris) Born to Win (Dr. Dorothy Jongeward)

Determines what we think and how we act Acts like a tape recorder while recording 1) Events 2) Associated feelings Has 3 distinct parts or ego states 1) Parent 2) Adult 3) Child

Individual acts like a matured person Characteristics

Protective Loving Controlling Nurturing Critical Directive Commanding, etc

Eg: people sometimes prefer to control others and critical of others acts and decisions. Similarly traditional superiors used to control and of critical of subordinates activities as well as performance.

Thoughts, feelings, attitudes, behavioral patterns based on child-like emotions, impulses, feelings we have experienced Child-like examples
Impulsive Self-centered Angry Fearful Curious Happy Pleasure seeking Eager to please Immature Rebellious Happy

E.g.: The subordinate accepts the decisions of the superior and modifies his/her travel plans when the superior clarifies to the subordinates the conditions under which his/her leave was not granted

Thoughts, feelings, attitudes, behavioral patterns based on objective analysis of information (data, facts)
Make decisions based on logic, computations, probabilities, etc. (not emotion)

Complementary Transactions: Appropriate and Expected Transactions indicating healthy human relationships. Communication takes place when transactions are complementary. A stimulus invites a response; this response becomes a stimulus inviting further response and so on.

Crossed Transaction: This causes most difficulties in social situations. May be, you should improve your teaching.
You always find fault with me whatever I do Parent-Child interaction.

P-C transactions
Appropriate for routine decisions as well as

activities where sharing of others skills and expertise is not needed.

P P

Eg :the production supervisor tells the foreman to change the scheduling. The foreman obeyed the order. The production supervisor is in the parent ego state and the foreman is in child ego state. This is a parent to child transaction.

A-A transaction
Useful to make strategic decisions as well as use

the human resource of subordinates and to make most effective decisions.

Eg: the production manager asked the assistant production manager(APM) to suggest measures to reduce the cost of production. The APM analyzed the data, identified the low cost sources and suggested measures to reduce the cost of production to the production manager.

Used by the powerful subordinates. These transactions do not allow the employees particularly of superiors to use their human resources.
P A P A

Eg: Mr.Prakash is a clerk in marketing dept. of Zuhari cements, a faction area in Andhra Pradesh and also the Secretary of the Employees Union of the company. Mr.Prakash is a follower of powerful local factionist. Employees union resorted to even to the physical threats in solving their problems in the past. One day he ordered the marketing manager to promote the marketing executives as the senior marketing executives. The marketing manager had to accept the order due to the power of the trade union. Subordinate(Mr.Prakash) assumes parent ego while superior assumes child ego due to compulsion of fear of physical threat.
