Intelligent Transportation Systems What is ITS Why ITS How to ITS Where ITS Conclusion .
What is ITS (1) The term intelligent transportation system (ITS) refers to efforts to add information and communications technology to transport infrastructure and vehicles to improve safety and reduce vehicle wear. . transportation times. and fuel consumption.
control. ITS are comprised of existing and new technologies. sensors. including information processing. . communications. What is ITS (2) Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) encompass a broad range of wireless and wire line communications-based information and electronics technologies. and electronics.
. and fuel consumption through the use of advanced information and communications technologies. Why ITS? (1) ITS answers to many of transportation problems. ITS is used to improve safety and reduce vehicle wear. Combining those technologies in innovative ways and integrating them into our multimodal transportation system will save lives. and resources. time. transportation times.
. and therefore. Why ITS? (2) If using ITS. the early stages of a traffic bottleneck situation can be detected. and traffic can be directed to other routes and to provide faster and more efficient routes for travelers. the problems can be solved before they develop into serious traffic jams. New technologies can response to occurrences of traffic problems in real time.
Some of the constituent technologies for ITS: Wireless Communication Computational technologies Floating car data/floating cellular data Sensing technologies Inductive loop detection Video vehicle detection .How to ITS ITS vary in technologies applied from a such car navigation to parking guidance and information systems.
Application of physics in intelligent transportation system .
In similar fashion solar panels are used to light up street lights at night. . The solar panels when sunlight strikes t he silicon panel it makes the electron in the silicon move around. The flow of electron produces electricity.Traffic signals and Traffic lights: Solar panels are used on traffic signals for providing power to the traffic lights.
At night the invertors are switched on to supply electricity to the street lights . When a car passes over it the rotors rotate and a mechanical motion is produced. These days on international and national highways special rotors have been installed. This mechanical motion is converted into electricity and stored in invertors.
When pressure is removed it produces small amount of electricity or signal. it compresses. Nano materials or nanomites are being used to manage traffic signals and traffic jams. . When pressure is applied on it. These nanomites are crystal like structures.
This helps in managing traffic jams. roads and highways. . This signal is received by the traffic light or signal. All the electricity produced and stored by all these methods are stored in invertors. These invertors are also used to power the cameras on streets.
These cars will drive on there own and park themselves. They have artificial intelligence. These cars detect near by cars or obstruction by using ultrasonic waves. The car will detect near by objects by sending ultrasonic waves and by receiving it.ITS in cars: Man has developed cars which have advanced cruise control. .
These trains do not have any tires and they levitate in the air. Computers are used to vary the current in the electromagnets. . Electromagnets are used to keep the train levitating in the air.ITS in railways: In countries like Japan have trains called Maglev trains.
. relying on the fact that a moving magnet will induce a electrical current in a nearby conducting wire.and detection system. length. and weight of vehicles. Inductive loop detection: The terms Inductive loop describe an electromagnetic communication. Loops can be placed in a single lane or across multiple lanes to estimate the speed.
