What is Dropped Call.

All cell resources are available (RLCRP:CELL=ALL), but calls are failing, then we have a call drop scenario. This could be caused by software errors, congestion, C7 link failures or many other reasons. If a call is abnormally disconnected, a Clear Request is sent to the MSC .If the Call is disconnected in a normal Fashion then Clear Message with cause code Call Control is sent . It is important to establish what types of calls are failing, and over what percentage of the network it is occuring. Is it: All Call Types Mobile Originating Calls only Mobile Terminating Calls only All types of Mobile Phone terminals What traffic mix (ie. Mobile to Mobile, Mobile to fixed, etc.) Is handover working

Troubleshooting :
Get all the Reports of TCH Drop ,Handover Performance ,SDCCH From OSS with the Trends before and after the Problem Identify if the Problem is Site Specific or not.

Identify if the cause of the Drops is Radio Related from the STS data or the Reason is Drop due to other Reasons.
Act according to the Supervsions enabled on the Devices ,if the Drop due to other Reasons is the issue. Most Likely the Problem is there in the Transcoder, ater end.

Continued:
Here is the list of points kept in mind at the very initial stage of investigation : *Local HW Fault in the BTS *Definition or Parameter related problem in BSC *Digital Path [ DIP ] status for the Site

*Preliminary Check up for Frequency Interference

*Field TEMS if required

Local HW Fault
For BSS, HW fault should be the prime and preliminary point to be concentrated. Even if the site/cell is related to such fault seem to be innocent, that fault should be removed first. One shouldn't concentrate to other point leaving a site with at least a BS Fault.

DIP Status
DIP with poor quality may lead to drop call problem in different cells. Poor quality may implicate High BER or Frame Loss in the DIP connected to a site. DIP Quality Supervision tools should be initiated for the suspected connecting Digital Path. Mismatch of DIP could be another reason behind drop call occurrence in some of the cell. Frequency Interference Problem Interference is generally related with Quality Drop, but sometimes it may provoke Sudden Drop as per situation Field TEMS TEMS is a tools used to identify problem in Radio Propagation mainly in Down Link signal. This tool could be sometimes used as per requirement. Besides TEMS could be a source of information about Drop Call in the existing radio network.

Specific Cell P/O:

If the fault is specific for particular cell(s), then get the following information for that cell(s):
