Throughout the past years, from 2011-2013 there has been a major decline in sales magazine for example Q, NME and and Uncut suffered double-digit year-on-year sales declines in another torrid period for the music magazine sector in the second half of 2011.

Recent figures of music magazine declines

Nowadays, because everything has been taken over by the internet and social networking, no one, in particular the young age group dont see the point in buying magazines any more. Especially because everything is just way more cheaper an accessible over the internet. How has the internet contributed to the decline in readers? The internet is so accessible now than it was 5 years ago even 10. We have it at the tip of our finger, at home, at school at work, in every place possible it just wouldnt seem necessary to go and buy a music magazine when you can read it in the own comfort of your home. This may be down to mostly the new upcoming generations who have been raised on nothing but technology where as the older generations such as people in there 60,70s have grown up to read as the internet wasnt accessible during that specific time frame. We can see that social networking sites play a big role in how the target audience consume there information as most magazine try to aim for a younger audience as they are the ones who can still be influenced.

All of this research has made me hesitant to actually choose a younger audience for the specific genre of rap, r&b and hip hop because all of the statistics have shown that as the rise of social networking decreases the sale of magazines such as nme, q etc. who reach out to a young target audience which has also declined. This is mostly because they have realised how to use more sufficient ways of getting resources. I am however going to keep my genre and target audience and I am going to design my magazine to suit my audience only I am going to take it further by doing something different that will attract my target audience even more. It will be a hard journey to embark but it will be worth it as professionals go the extra mile in order to fulfil there full purpose in the media industry. My target audience are both genders, both boys and girls will be able to interact with the magazine as there will be many inspirations on the cover in which they can aspire to. They will be ranging from 16-early 20s as that generation mostly grew up with artists such as Mariah Carey, Biggie Smalls, aaliyah, The game, Drake and many other aspirational influences. Although there isnt a gap in the market there hasnt been much speculation of rap and r&b magazines for quite a while so Im trying to re introduce to the audience which a bang to start an uprising within the industry. I would intend on using Bauer media as it is a recognized industry and they have published some of the greatest magazines such as NME, Q, Keraang. Most of my target audience will be in some sort of education or apprenticeship, so they are still more likely to be influenced by trends around them. What I am aiming to do Is to not only provide Information about new artists, party playlists and much more but in fact make it trendy to the point where you want to have that magazine lying around in your room or on your living room table. I want my magazine to make an impact to the extent where it changes the atmosphere in the room.
