► Verification scheme 1 requires the planned inspection items to be dealt

with within the ship’s maintenance system, under the responsibility of ship’s officers (Captain, Chief Engineer).
► Prior to assign verification scheme 1 to any planned inspection item, the

surveyor must obtain the agreement of his SSOM and must satisfy himself that:

The ship has implemented a Maintenance System The ship’s Maintenance System is kept up to date by the competent persons

The competent persons understands which remedial actions shall be taken, the way to report on actions taken through VeriSTAR Info and the records to be kept onboard to be presented to Bureau Veritas surveyor during the next attendance.

Verification scheme 1 shall be applied only for ships having a reliable and efficient maintenance system implemented on board. Otherwise, verification scheme 2 must be used.

3. Planned Inspection Items & Verification Schemes
► Reporting actions taken through VeriSTAR Info:

Once the remedial actions are taken onboard, Owners shall report to BV through VeriSTAR Info – www.veristar.com. After identification, Owners shall access the list of ships by clicking the button that appears in the identification frame. The Owner selects the ship for which he wants to report the actions, this will open the ship summary page, as shown The “Ship Status – Items to be dealt with” part indicates that there are outstanding planned inspection items and provides a link to access the confirmation page. Alternatively, the button “REC/OBS/NC” in the left menu also opens the confirmation page.

3. Planned Inspection Items & Verification Schemes
► Reporting actions taken through VeriSTAR Info:

Recommendations and Observations are listed separately. Recommendations appear in the ship status and shall be dealt with by the indicated due date. Planned inspection items assigned with verification scheme 1 which requires items to be dealt with by ship’s officers and remedial actions confirmed to Bureau Veritas, are displayed and allow owners to: • Indicate that remedial actions have been taken (check-box “Action”) • Enter the effective date of implementation of remedial actions onboard • Enter a short description of the remedial actions taken

Records of actions taken shall be kept onboard and be presented to Bureau Veritas surveyor during the next attendance. The surveyor will then confirm the implementation of the remedial actions and their effectiveness, and deal with the Observation.

This system is similar to the one implemented for ISM non-conformities.   New Certification System .2012 21 . Planned Inspection Items & Verification Schemes ► Reporting actions taken through VeriSTAR Info  It is owner’s responsibility to report actions taken related to planned inspection items under verification scheme 1. mainly composed by small or very small units.3. • Alternatively. the owners who do not have access to VeriSTAR Info may report the actions taken to the ship’s connecting district who will make the necessary entries in VeriSTAR Info. the verification scheme 1 shall not be assigned and therefore there will be no need to report actions through VeriSTAR Info. • In case there is a reliable maintenance system implemented and the surveyor is confident that the observations will be dealt with by the owner. we shall consider the following points: • Is there a reliable maintenance system implemented onboard these small units? If no. Concerning the remaining 20%. the surveyor shall propose the owners to obtain access to VeriSTAR Info in order to be able to report actions taken. Around 80% of ships presently classed have access to VeriSTAR Info and we may consider that they will be able to report actions taken.

They are cleared in Neptune database by the surveyor’s NPSS.  ► Planned Inspection Items in Ship Status:  Outstanding Recommendations appear in the class/statutory ship status The list of all outstanding planned inspection items. the owners take the remedial actions and report them to BV. The planned inspection item is outstanding until the owner declares the actions taken through VeriSTAR Info.3.

Based on the results of the occasional survey. Overdue recommendations. the surveyor has two options: • If actions taken are satisfactory. Surveyors cannot ignore them. the corresponding observation is dealt with • If no actions taken or the actions taken are not satisfactory. the surveyor cancels or postpones the corresponding recommendations and/or observations. including those for which an action has already been taken and reported. At the next attendance onboard. the surveyor shall select an occasional survey for dealing with observations.3. overdue observations and observations with actions taken and reported must be either dealt with or postponed. the corresponding observation is normally to be upgraded into recommendation with verification scheme 2. ► Therefore the surveyors must leave on board a “Survey Statement” containing the summary of surveys carried out. ► This new document to be prepared onboard by the surveyors upon completion of surveys.
