What is Dementia ??
Dementia is a progressive brain disorder This results in restriction and problems in performing daily activities of living It interferes with social relationships. Dementia involves decline in cognitive functions.

Incidence Of Dementia
Worldwide, 7% (4 to 12%) of persons over the age of 65, 50% of those over the age 85,have some form of dementing illness In India as the prevalence of dementia is approximately 3% among persons aged 65years & above Dementia prevalence - 8 to 10% in the USA, UK, Canada, and other developed countries. Dementia is truly a global problem.

DEMENTIA
Dementia: Yesterday, today and tomorrow 1950 : 8% (12.3 million) people over age 65. 1995 : 12.8% (33.5 million) people over age 65. 2030 : 20% (69 million) of people will be over age 65. Multiple studies have shown a doubling of both prevalence and incidence rates for dementia approximately every 5 years after 60 or 65. Along with numbers of demented patients, the costs of caring them have soared. In the USA, dementia may cost about 10% of all health care expenditure.

It has been seen worldwide that, family members are one of the biggest suffers. A demented patient has to be taken care properly and as the disease progresses, he/she becomes totally dependent on others for even the basic activities of daily living, like toileting, brushing the teeth, wearing clothes, walking, talking, etc.
