Theory of cause and effect


  Every act performed in the world comprises of two factors – “Cause & Effect”. Cause is the process and effect is the result. Cause is the input and effect is the output. So to have the requisite effect, you should put the causes accordingly.  

You can not have the control upon the effect but the causes are in your hand. So better the causes, better are the effects – the results! Here practice is the cause and performance (in the match) is the effect.

So in cricket, if we systemize the practice in the best way, our results will definitely be the best!


Guruji used to say, “I am least concerned with what you perform on the stage. But while practicing I am not going to accept anything less.”  




What you mean by sadhana?

Sadhana means ‘Pursuing something (may be your passion) in a particular way over a period of time.’ It is a study with sea-depth analysis. In sadhana, you pour yourself completely in your passion.  


Let’s see the levels of expertise. Let’s call them 4 steps of expertise   Expertise at the level of Interest. Expertise at the level of Passion. Expertise at the level of Profession. Expertise at the level of Sadhana.


If we talk about cricket; these levels can be as :   •Gully (local) cricket – Level of Interest •District/Divisional level cricket – Level of Passion •Domestic and International cricket will fall under the levels of Profession •???????? Sadhana.


Why the level of sadhana is vacant?
  Sadhana in cricket means you own the game. Just like Baba Ramdev owns yoga/ayurveda…, Einstein owns Atom Bomb…, Pt Ravishankar owns sitar….   “IT IS A STATE WHERE YOU DELIVER WHAT YOU DESIRE.….!!” The field is at your feet…..!   Cricket has not reached the level what it can. A lot better cricket can be played today.    



Habit is the stage, where you don’t need any confidence :
like walking is habit. So while walking you will never say that ‘I am feeling confident that I can walk.’   Any mental state or any psychological pressure can’t affect that, because the control is in your legs not in your mind. Legs automatically walk.     So practice upto that level that it should become an habit for you. Expertise is the next stage of habit and ahead of it…. is Excellency.  

How can one become expert?
When you practice for a longer time with a detailed analysis, you gradually march towards expertise. And expertise in together makes you excellent.   Great Musicians practiced 10-12 hrs. a day for years. They passed the phases of habit & expertise. They are at a high level of Excellency.   “ In cricket if you practice to the level of habit, then you won’t need any confidence! It is a beyond confidence stage. Any negative or pressurized situation will not affect your game.”  


So in cricket, it will need at least 8-10 months’ thorough practice (for domestic/national level player) to become a very good quality player.


How to practi


Schedule it. Plan, it in advance.
Everyday start from zero. Start with very slow exercises, light exercises. The secret of fast action is slow practice! The slow you practice, the fast you can play!   It is the science of nerves. Let your nerves get free… get warmed. Take a pause…   Once the nerves become warm and flexible….., increase the speed. Remember, it should be at ease. You should feel comfortable...   If you start practicing wrong way, i.e. Speedy practice at the beginning you are game. Your nerves will become stagnant. Which will lead you to internal stagnancy, internal rigidity and subsequently, injuries?  


Law of Intens


Case 1)When a batsman steps out, assume he has got a ball in the bat-foot area & he has hit it for the maximum.


Case 2)Batsman is at the crease only and he has got the ball in the same bat-foot area, normally the chances of hitting the ball for the maximum are very less. Much dependent upon the circumstances.  


Intensity is different because, there is the difference in the INTENSITY..

Batsman’s time

In case 1- the batsman in making use of the maximum of the Batsman’s time. In case 2 – the batsman is little late– he is not using the maximum Batsman’s time.      


How to practice Intensity?
First of all you have to understand and realize the importance of the Law of Intensity and its utility.   Then you have to practice it from the all the 3 abovementioned aspects: •Physically you have to tighten your nerves. You need to be prepared to execute it to the maximum throughout the game  


•Mentally you need to be very alert & aggressive.   •Use the complete Batsman’s time.   To practice the intensity, you should ….   Bat to the spinners for at least 3-4 hrs everyday.   The more intensively (longer) you practice, the more intensity will flow in your batting   This technique is very useful especially against the spinners


In music :

Swimmer of the ocean


  The reason is very scientific & logical.. “When we practice 200% we can easily perform 100% .”   This is a universal logic - applicable everywhere.. So how can we apply this logic in cricket? …   It can be used from all aspects of cricket:  



  •Use a double weighted bat while practicing.   •Use a double weight ball.   •In the match, batsman stands in the centre of the ground. So he should stand at one end of the ground & try to clear the whole ground .


•In order to face a fast bowler easily, a batsman can practice the bowls of the speed of 140-160 km/ph He can also practice those

Bowling : 

•A bowler can use 2ble or 3ple weight ball. •He can cut down his run up to just 3-4 steps •Practice to bowl at 1 stump.

Fielding :  •Practice to throw from one end to another end of the ground- double the distance •Practice with a 2ble weight ball. •Practice to hit at 1 stump from deep.

There is strong emphasis on the amount of continuous practice under this technique. Then only it will give you the power.  

How to master the shot?


In music there is one very beautiful exercise – to play one note in 30 different ways. There are 2 main benefits of this exercise :   The gripon the note becomes firm – immovable   He gets variety of ways to play that note.   In cricket also this technique is very useful.  


For Batsman :
  •Play 20 different bowls in 1 direction •Play one bowl in 20 directions/ways •Play 20 bowls of different speed in one direction.   Once 1 shot is mastered, he can master other shots quicker. Also he gets the variations for his shot selection.


For Bowler :-

  •Try to bowl 20 different speed bowls at 1 spot (small circle). •Try bowl to a stump in 20 different ways (it can be from any side, from distance behind the crease, full toss…etc or bowler’s own creativity)

For Fielder :  •Try to hit to the stump from 20 different places •Try to hit the stump in 20 different speeds from one place.  


This exercise is a great technique of attaining Accuracy.

“Never play a shot which you are not good at” :
  In music we never go beyond our speed, our limitations. Chances of being successful are very less.., by fluke only. We are taught to “No experiments on stage”

Never exceed your limitations.

Indians are weak in pull shot & sweep shot:
If you are not able to do something, it is because of inadequate & improper practice.  

Pull shot :
This is a 6- day course Everyday bat to 150 bouncers in 3 speeds.   Start with 1st 50 bowls of the speed of 115 kmph Next 50 bowls of the speed of 120 kmph Next 50 bowls of the speed of 130 kmph.   Every next day, increase the speed by 5 kmph respectively.   On the 7th day you will be the lion of pull shot!  


Knocking Prac


In music when we practice (sitar/guitar) our day starts with simple & basic exercise of slowly plucking (striking) the strings at a particular tempo to free our nerves. “This is Father of all exercises!” This exercise last for 45-50 minutes.  

Benefits of plucking practice :
  •The tone becomes sharper. We call it round sound. •The sound becomes louder. More you practice, louder the sound you get. It gives you a punching sound! •Nerves get freed & become powerful. Speed of playing also increases a lot . The formula is the slower you practice the faster you can play. •Tempo & timing becomes accurate. Playing becomes firm.

Varieties of knocking practices :

There are various techniques which can doubly benefit the player. They are based on the logic of “swimmer of the ocean” •Heavy bat knocking :•Heavy ball knocking :•Knock with the stump : this will improve your middling the ball HORIZONTALY


•Change the height of the ball : VERTICAL middling improves.

•Double ball knocking : this will improve concentration. Timing also becomes exquisite.



•Knocking with beats : if you want to practice for long without getting mentally tired, practice with a beat machine. Because your mind will be busy in matching with the beat. AN OUT OF FORM BATSMAN SHOULD PRACTICE THIS FOR HOURS.

For a Bowler :
•A bowler should rotate his arms very slowly (reverse & straight) but for a longer time. This will remove the stiffness from your body. •Then take some weight in both the hands & follow the same pattern. •Now mark a circle on the pitch. Bowl in that circle at a moderate speed & small run up. After some time reduce the circle. Go on doing this without increasing the speed. •Keeping the circle same, change the bowling speed step by step. •You can also do these exercises with heavier ball   After some days you will find miracles in your bowling. These exercises will also reduce your injuries.  

If somebody has a dream of hitting (against spinner), he can do it now…

‘Knocking practice’ will help to come centrally ‘Swimmer of the ocean’ technique will assure
the hit for maximum shot. ‘Master the shot’ will give the options…..   In fact anybody can do that with the help of this SYSTEM.    


Qualities of cricketer


Qualities of a singer :  

In all there are 16 qualities of a singer. And a singer who posses all these qualities is recognized as Perfect Singer. They are as follows:   •His voice should be melodious •He should have the ability to present the raga easily ……………………………………………………………………. …………………….16)   Based on this there can also be some qualities of a player which can prove him as a Perfect Player


Qualities of a Batsman :

His stance should be technically sound. He should have the ability to play any bowl or any bowler. He should have the ability to bat at any order He should have good built & power in his hands. He should always be fit & take care of his fitness. He should have complete control on his shots He should be very alert & quick between the wickets. He should have the ability to play all kinds of shots & have the correct shot selection He should develop correct tuning & co-ordination with he non- striker. He should have the ability to bat under any weather or pitch condition He should never get beaten by the bowler the bowl instead should always beat the bowler. He should have the ability of mesmerizing the spectators & should have rhythm in his playing He should have a cool mind & he should always be focused. He should have high level of concentration He should know his responsibility & is always aware about it He should be a innovative & sharp student of the game

Qualities of a Bowler :

He should always keep himself fit. He should have cool mind. He should be capable of bowling anytime. He should be able to make use of the weather, pitch & ball conditions. He should have rhythm in his bowling. He should practice regularly. He should be aware of his role & responsibility He should always beat the batsman He should be sharp & analytical. He should never experiment on the field. He should have sportsman spirit. He should have complete control in his bowling.

Qualities of a fielder :
• • • • • • • • • • • • • •   BHOOSHAN GOGAD He should be live wire on the field. He should be capable of fielding at any position. He should have accuracy & control in his throw. He should have huge stamina & positive body- language. He should be capable of diving & sliding. He should know the correct angular positions on the field. He should be very alert & speculative. He should be an athlete & a fast runner. He should have loud calling & good co ordination with others. He should practice regularly & keep himself updated. He should never experiment on the field. He should be a innovative & sharp student of the game. He should always be cheering & with a smiling face. He should have sportsman spirit

These qualities stand as a cross check for a player. He can measure his efficiency & his lacking.    



Accuracy mainly comprises of 2 things   • Correct/scientific practice (External factor ) • Tendency (Internal factor) :   Accuracy is all about CENTERING the target..! More the accuracy, better you can center the target..   One has to pass through 3 stages to reach to the level of accuracy   •You have set a target & you are trying to hit the target. Sometimes you do sometimes you can’t. (accuracy level – 2030%)  


Control in the target :Maximum times you are hitting the target. (Accuracy level 70-90%)

Control in your hand :

Now you can hit at the center of any target. (Accuracy level 100% ) This is a beyond concentration stage.


I believe that Arjun was at a very high level of this stage!   Even Eklavya had the same control (He hit bows in the barking dog’s mouth)   I will give an example to explain these stages: So to have control in the hand, one has to follow a particular

method of practicing : 

•Start from the basic exercises at a low tempo •Gradually increase the tempo •Take a pause & go back to earlier tempo again increase the tempo.. Go on doing that……every time increase the tempo little more. BHOOSHAN GOGAD The logic behind starting slow is to free the nerves. Once the nerves become warm, increase the tempo but only to a comfort level.  

Along with the cricketing on- field practices, there are some other techniques to improve (accurate) the tendency : •Practice bow & arrow. •Take a paper & try to mark the center. •Take a bucket & throw balls into that. •Rifle shooting. •Practice home basketball….

You can make your own exercises.


Individual game v/s tea


The best example to understand this is that of SOLO singing & CHORUS singing. In

Solo Singing,

•Singer is thoroughly prepared. •Margin if error is very less. •Level of alertness is high. •Level of responsibility is high. •It is an independent performance & success.   Whereas in Chorus Singing, •Singer is not that thoroughly prepared. There is interdependency. •Mistakes are always overlapped by others’ correct singing. •Are not that alert. •Responsibility level is not as high as solo singer. •It is a team/ dependent performance & success.


Same difference is there between tennis (individual game) & cricket (team game)

In tennis (individual game) :  
•Margin of error is less : •FEAR OF LOSS :-.:.. If you are out of form, you are out of game. •Independent performance :. There is always Do or Die situation. •Level of responsibility is high : guilty feeling. No celebrations!


In cricket (team game) :  


•Margin of error is more : Mistakes don’t have direct impact on the result. Just like Chorus singing. If others perform better, your errors get overshadowed.   •Preparation is not that thorough : If you have performed good in one game, it is generally a comfort zone feeling. There is NO FEAR OF LOSS.   •Dependency : There is always a subconscious feeling that somebody is there. There is no Do or Die feeling. Not deliberately, but you are dependent on others.   •Responsibility level is not that high : Even if one fails & because of others’ success, team wins. Failure also enjoy…celebrate! The guilty feeling is not as intense as in individual games. Because you survives even after some failures. Sometimes even out of form players continue to be in the team.    

How to promote Performances :


•Rewards should be designed favoring individual performances •Organize serious single- wicket tournament, & consider the performances during selection. •Players should prepare at individual level. •Study individual game champions. Find out how they practice. Etc.


Valid supplements to boost the energy level :
    •Use elastic caps wherever possible, all over the body. •Consume best energy drinks. •Listen to music everywhere off the field •If somebody is crazy practicing, he can consume bhang to longenthe practicing ours without feeling tiredness.
