What is the difference between web drama and normal TV dramas?
Web dramas tend to be less realistic and more fantasy than television dramas. Web series dramas are directed and produced by people who are wanting to either become a professional and haven't done so yet. You are able to leave feedback on the web series drama whereas you are unable to do this on televised programmes. The TV channel programmes are more popular as they are easier to be advertised through TV magazines, adverts etc, whereas web series are only tend to be advertised through the websites. Web television have a variety of dramas to view on TV which have to be approved before hand to be created.
Narratives used in a web series
The web dramas could have different types of narratives in their series: - Flashback : This is where you go back in time and see a event which would of already happened and your being shown it. This can be shown by effects of different colours to show the contrast between the scenes. - Linear : This is where a scene will start in one place and then finish in another place. - Non Linear: This is where a scene can lead to multiple developments. - Realist: This is where the scene are based on true and real events which can be related to. - Anti Realist: This is the opposite where there is a more fantasy scene and something unique.
Emma approved was a romance and documentary style genre. It was a romance genre as Emma was focusing on making people fall in love and be able to plan them their perfect wedding. It was seen also as a documentary genre as Emma was giving the audience updates about everything which was going on. This series consist of 24 episodes which tells us a mini story about how the couples are getting along. There are many twists in the episodes. The web series is told through a web cam which engages the audiences attention at all times and when other people come into the episode they come in either through Skype/Facetime extra. The idea of this was taken from Jane Austin from Pride and Prejudice and made into a Web series. This tells us a linear story as their are stories told in each episode. Emma is a very over exaggerated person with lots of joy.
The Power Inside
The power inside is made up from lots of different genres including, comedy/romance/scifi/animation/adventure etc. The clips are very short and is more of a film than a web series as their is lots of things happening in each episode. The web series is based on a evil moustache creature which is trying to ruin the world and take over by attaching themselves to everyone. As the clips are very short they are mainly left on cliff hangers. This have a anti realist narrative as it has a storyline which is not real and over exaggerated.
Red wood is about a vampire who keeps a sick young woman alive by feeding her his blood. But they must keep their arrangement a secret from her vampire slayer brother and his ill-intentioned girlfriend or risk losing both of their lives. This is based on a drama and has a horror/thriller storyline as well. Each episode ends with a cliff hanger and they are short films which gages the audience into the clips. They mainly have cliff hangers and linear narrative which show they are following a storyline through the series.
