Mathematics

Transdisciplinary Learning

Measurement: Students will learn about timelines and how they are used by historians to keep track of events. They will also inquire into length and mass, different units of measurement and tools. They will also continue to develop their estimation skills. Language Arts Reading: Students will learn the reading strategy of inferring to help them understand historical texts by putting together their background knowledge with text or picture clues. Writing: Students will explore and write fairy tales and fables. They will look at classic examples and think about how they could change for contemporary times. Viewing and Presenting and Listening and Speaking: Responding and giving feedback to presentations as well as learning to use intonation, volume, pace and body language to communicate ideas. Thai Studies: Students will use traditional Thai artifacts to explore how life was in the past in Thailand.

Central Idea
Understanding the past allows us to appreciate the lifestyle we have now and prepare for the future.

Research: Students will look for information about their past, their familys past and humanitys past. Thinking: Students will use information they collect to analyze the cause and effect of changes in our lifestyle as well as reflect on their own future.

Action
Students will be able to use their learning to foster flexibility in their thinking that will allow them to approach the future with enthusiasm. They will reflect on their comforts and conveniences and develop an appreciation for the progress that has occurred.
