Design of an
Intelligent Washing Machine
X-007 – CS
Scenarios
①Working Woman:
– Not possible to given continuous attention
– Expect the machine to complete the cleaning, drying and folding
– Mix of clothes to be automatically handled by the machine.
②Farmer:
– Water scarcity – 8-10ltrs of hard water
– Heavily soiled clothes of 4 people
– Power cuts and voltage fluctuations
– Easy to use
Scenario -cont.
③Small house:
– Less space to locate the machine – wall mount is preferable
– Should be silent
– Quick wash option for daily used clothes

• Maintenance scenario:
– Level1: Should display the cause and instructions to the user
– Level2: When the fault requires spares or specialized attention, should
automatically communicate to the service center by SMS or over
Internet. Service center should identify the spares required, and
schedule a service call with the customer.

Chosen Design
Function Method Remarks
Loading of Clothes
Conveyer Enables detecting the type of clothes.
Enables determining the wash cycle
Loading of Cleaning
agent
Automated Dispenser Provides for selecting the type of
cleaning agent and quantity based on
clothes type and wash cycle
Mixing of clothes and
cleaning agent
Conveyer Cleaning agents are sprayed over the
clothes to remove stains and uniform
spread of cleaning agent
Cleaning cycle
Air Jets and Ultrasonic,
Vacuum suction
Ultrasonic vibration separates dirt, air
jets wash off the dirt and removed by
suction
Remove the cleaning
agents and dirt
Chemical Neutralizers Remove cleaning agents without water
Remove the clothes
Conveyer Clothes are removed, and fall back into
a container
