Readers use a variety of reading strategies to
assist with decoding.

There are several types and
methods of reading.
Subvocalized reading:
Combines sight reading with internal sounding of the
words as if spoken.
Speed reading:
A collection of methods for increasing reading speed
without an unacceptable reduction in comprehension
or retention.
Proof reading:
A kind of reading for the purpose of detecting
typographical errors.


Speaking is the productive
skill in the oral mode.

Speaking is more complicated
than it seems at first and
involves more than just
pronouncing words.

There are three kinds of
speaking situations in which
we find ourselves:
Interactive,
partially interactive, and
non-interactive.

Speaking Skills involve
Appearance
Voice
Body language
In order:
To use vocabulary appropriately.
To make clear to the listener the
main sentence constituents.
To make the discourse hang
together so that people can follow
what you are saying.
To pronounce the distinctive
sounds of a language clearly enough so
that people can distinguish them.
To use stress and rhythmic patterns, of
the language clearly enough so that
people can understand what is said.
To use the correct forms of words.
To put words together in correct word order.

In order to:
Learn the language.

Read for content information.

Read for cultural knowledge
and awareness.

Identify and understand useful ideas as
efficiently as possible.

Transfer the information to long term memory or
note it for future reference.
As Hannah Arendt put it:
Nothing we use or hear or touch
can be expressed in words
that equal what we are
given by the senses.
Due to the following reasons:
Before starting speech one
must have gone through
the phase of reading.
One must always speak about what one knows.
Before start to speech one must be prepared
thoroughly by reading.
Concentrate on the message. This can
only be achieved by reading.
One must gain and update knowledge
by reading.
