Body Tissues

Types of Tissues

Epithelial Tissue
Epithelial tissue forms a continuous layer or sheet
covering the entire body.

Protection, producing and releasing secretion as well
as absorbing nutrients all considered to be function of
the epithelial tissue.

Epithelial Tissue
A. Simple Squamous Epithelium
Single layer of flat cells
lining the:
Internal cavities.
Heart
Urinary & respiratory tract
Blood vessels

B. Simple Cuboidal Epithelium
Single layer of cubic
shaped cells lining the:

kidney tubules
Ducts of various glands
B.Simple Cuboidal Epithelial Tissue

C. Simple Columnar Epithelium
A single layer of tall,
cylindrical cells lining:
Small intestine
Digestive tract
Oviducts
Contains mucus-
secreting cells called
goblet cell, it has a goblet-
shaped and a clear
interior.
D. Stratified Squamous Epithelium

Non keratinized
It Consist of many layers,
the inner most layer
produces cells that
pushes the other cells
towards the surface and
become flattened.

Lining the mouth

Stratified Squamous Epithelium
(Non Keratinized )
Stratified Squamous Epithelium
( Keratinized)
As the cells begin to
flatten, die and accumulate
they form a protein called
keratin.

They make the outer layer
of the epidermis tough,
protective & able to repel
water.

Stratified Squamous Epithelium
( Keratinized)

E. Pseudostratified Ciliated Columnar
Epithelium
Has basal membrane
with cilia at the surface.
line the trachea .
Sweeps impurities
towards throat.

Connective Tissues

Bones
Hyaline Cartilage
Cells lies in lacunae
( chondrocytes ). The
lacunae is separated by a
flexible matrix containing
weak collagenous fibrous.
Occurs in nose & walls of
respiratory passages.
Function in support &
protection.
Blood
Basophil
Lymphocyte
Monocytes
Blood
Neutrophil
Eosinophil

Muscular Tissue

. Skeletal Muscles 1
Striated cells with
multi nuclei
Occurs in muscles
attached to skeleton
Voluntary in function.

Muscular Tissue
2. Cardiac muscle
Branching striated cells
with single nuclei.
Occurs in the wall of the
heart .
Function in pumping of
blood
In voluntary
Muscular Tissue
3. Smooth muscle
Spindle-shaped cells each
with a single nucleus.
Cells have no striation.
Function, in the movement
of substance in lumens.
Found in blood vessels &
digestive tracts.
In voluntary
