 Storage devices hold data,instruction


and information for future use.
Storage Medium

A storage medium is also called secondary storage,is


the physical material on which a copmputer keeps
data,instruction and information.Examples of storage
media are floopy disks,zip disks,hard,disks,CDs and
DVDs,tape,PC cards,miniature mobile storage media
such as memory sticks or cards,USB flahs drives.

Floppy Disks

A floppy disk is also called a diskette is a portable inexpensive


storage medium that consist of a thin,circular,flexible plastic mylar
film with a magnatic coating enclosed in a square-shapes plastic
shell.The size of floppy disk is 5.25 inches wide.
It is used by a floppy disk drive that reads from and write on a
floppy disk.
Zip Disks
 A zip disk is type of portable magnatic
media that can store from 100MB to
750MB of data.A popular use of zip
disks is back up important or
information.
 A back up is a duplicate of a
file,program, or disk you can use in
case the original is lost , damaged ,
destroyed.
Hard Disk
 A hard disk is also called a hard disk drive, is a storage
device that contains one or more inflexible, circular
platters that store data, instructions, information.Today
hard disk have enough storage capacity for the most
complex multimedia software.People use hard disk to
store all types of documents spreadsheets, database, e-
mail massages, web pages, digital photographs, music,
videos, and software.
 Characteristics of a hard disk includes its capacity,
platters, read/write heads, cylinders, sectors and tracks,
rpm, transfer rate and access time.
CDs and DVDs
 CDs and DVDs are type of optical
storage media that consist of a flat
round portable disk made of metal,
plastic and lacquer.These disk usually
are 4.75 inches in diameter and less
than one-twentieth of an inch thick.
 These are used by a CD ROMs.
Memory Cards
 Memory card is small square shape
storage device that available in
differtent memory sizes.Usually these
are used in mobile devices.
USB Flash Drive
 USB drives are the small and light
weight storage devices.USB (flash
drive) sometimes called a keychain
drive, is a flash memory sthorage
device that plugs into a USB port on
the computer.USB flash drives have
data transfer rate of about 8 MBps
and storage capacities up to 2 GB.

 Miniature mobile storage media allow
the mobile users easily to transport
digital images, music or documents to
and from computer and other
devices.Many types of miniature
mobile storage media are available,
with capacities ranging from 16MB to
4GB.
