Helen Hunt interview with

the Wall Street Journal

Did you read Mark OBriens 1990 magazine article, On

Seeing a Sex Surrogate, while you prepared for the role?
Yes. He has a book, and thats one of the chapters. Theres
the thing with the ear, when he goes That feels weird.
The way it actually happened was he said, Can I put my
tongue in your ear? And she said, No, because I hate
that, but its a really good question and I am glad you asked
because you will ask somebody else and theyll be really
wanting you do that. And I thought, Thats it! Thats the
exchange right there: Its great you asked. Its great that I
say no. And its really important you ask again.
Who do you hope sees this movie?
I really want young people to see this movie. I want them
to sneak in. While they are seeing 5,000 other images of
what sex is supposed to be, if they could see this one also,
it would be pretty great.
The sex in this film is not that fake, airbrushed perfect sex
shown in so many films that are geared toward that
audience.
This film is about how awkward sex is, how beautiful it is,
how scary it can be, how vulnerable everybody feels.
Is Fox Searchlight doing anything specifically to bring
younger people in?
They cant. Im totally naked so its an R. Thats just how it
is.
What about college students?
Im going to push that, to bring it to colleges. On the one
hand, maybe by then its too late. But maybe its never too
late. Its a good idea. Thank you for that.

Masters and Johnsons research

As well as recording some of the first
physiological data from the human body and sex
organs during sexual excitation, they also framed
their findings and conclusions in language that
espoused sex as a healthy and natural activity
that could be enjoyed as a source of pleasure and
intimacy.
The era in which their research was conducted
permitted the use of methods that have not been
attempted before or since. (source: Wikipedia)
