Price support to the farmers for their product.


Maintenance of stocks.

PROBLEM
Tripura state is going to face a huge crisis of
Rice, who usually consume around 35,000 tons
every month.
CAUSES:
1. Indian Railways has proposed a gauge
conversion of a 220km track from Assam
to Agartala from October 1 2014.
2. Rice is normally served from Punjab and
Haryana.
3. Highways are in a very bad condition.

DESIGNED SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM


Alternate options are Road transportation.
Rail-Road transportation from (Lumding to
Agartala by Road)
Vishakhapatnam to Agartala. Via Diamond
Harbor and Bangladesh.

Chose option was to transport rice bags from


Vishakhapatnam to Agartala by sea.

TARGET
To Transport 10000MTs of Rice from FCI
Vishakhapatnam to FCI Agartala.

This is done in two shifts of 5000MTs and


5000MTs.

Multimodal Transportation.
Transportation of Rice bags from FCI
Depot to Port by Trucks.
Vishakhapatnam to Diamond Harbor by
Vessel.
Diamond Harbor to Ashugunj Port by
Barges.
Ashugunj Port to Agartala by Trucks.

Vishakhapatnam

Trucks will be loaded by labors


at FCI and then transported to
Vishakhapatnam Port
Then the Vessel will be loaded
by Labors with the help of crane
nets

Cargo is shifted to
Trucks at Ashugunj
Port
Trucks are then
transported to the
Destination (FCI
Agartala)

Loaded Vessel is Brought to


Diamond Harbor and the cargo
is shifted to barges
Barges are then sent to
Ashugunj Port

Market Research for Stevedores, Truck
Operators, Vessel Fumigators, Ship Chandler,
Quantity Surveyors.
AT FCI GNANAPURAM:
Rice bags of 50kgs.
Double Gunny Packing.
Trucks of 10MTs and 20MTs.
Loading rate of 1.20Rs. Per bag for labors.
Staff rate of 10Rs. For each ton.
Loading at FCI, Gnanapuram by Trucks.
Usage of hooks.

AT VISHAKHAPATNAM PORT:
Government Port.
Use of Dock Labor

Board(DLB),

Permanent Labor.
Demand of Extra wages.
Usage of port Cranes.
Steve doring.
Surveyors for each Truck.
After filling the vessel the Documents are
created and the vessel is sent to Diamond
Harbor.

Vessel

had to wait in the anchorage for 5

days.
Unloading at the anchorage not at the
port.
No enough Draft.
Loaded 5 Barges.
Loaded Barges are sent to Ashugunj Port.
Documents are Created.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Use

of FCI Labors for Unloading.


No usage of Hooks.
Double Gunny Packing should be followed
regularly.
Train the labors to use the Machine for
Double Gunny Packing.
Special Permission must be Given for the
Rice Transportation.
