101 Ways To A Perfect ‘10
By Keegan Burkhlder
The physical pillar of our life is what is in our consensual reality. Our physical bodies, our environmental surroundings, Work, Home, our Cars and the places we hang out, all have a lot to say about us. Everyone of these things are in our physical pillar. Now keep in mind I do not mean the type of car, home, or work you do. I mean the environment in which you allow yourself to reside. The most amazing thing about the physical pillar is, it is usually a direct reflection of all of our inner pillars. When we change the way we treat our external environment our inner world changes in a very measurable way. Always remember success is an inside out job, but the easiest way to see what is going on inside is to look at our bodies, and our environment.
1-30 minutes 3x a week
We all live busy lives, and sometimes our health takes a back seat. We either lack time or we aren’t in the habit of giving the effort. No matter what excuses we have been making, I know that everyone has 90 minutes a week to invest into exercise. Positive effects of regular exercise are lower blood pressure, a reduced risk of diabetes, and decreased chance of heart disease. However, we all love instantaneous results in life, so let’s look at the instant results. When we work out, we burn off cortisol, which is the stress hormone, and increase endorphins, our happy hormones. This leads to more peace of mind and happiness, and it decreases our reactions to stressful situations. Try a slimmer body and happier mind in 2010 you won’t regret it.
2- Park at the End of The Row
I don’t remember when exactly I began parking further away in the lot. All I can tell you is how amazed I was that it actually took less time to get into the store than when I was looking for a close parking spot. It also gives you a few extra steps to go and even an extra 100 steps a day has a big impact. 36,500 extra steps in the year would certainly have some impact on your body I assure you. Try it for a couple of days and I promise you will notice, that while you are already parked and in the store. The people who entered the lot before you, are still looking for a spot. Parking closer doesn’t save you time, and it doesn’t help you be more healthy.
3- Take the Stairs
We live in a society that is a slave to efficiency. While cell phones and laptops are great, elevators can be your worst enemy. Unless you work in the big city, your office or apartment, more than likely, has less than 5 flights of stairs. Use the stairs and you will increase your daily step count and work out that lovely heart of yours. It is in doing the things that other people won’t that we become the most empowered and able to make extraordinary changes in our life. Starts with taking the stairs and ends with a marathon, watch out for your bad self.
4-Get a Physical
Our physical health is our most precious gift in life, yet often goes neglected for years at a time. Make a yearly physical a part of your new-year routine. Mandy and I go and see our naturopath once a quarter just to check in and see how things are going. Every year we get the full work up, cholesterol, check into the immune system and look for signs of diabetes and other disease. So far so good but who knows, one of these years something could show up. I am sure we will be glad, if it does, that we took the time to go see the doc and get poked.
5-Get a Massage
As a massage therapist I obviously have a high value of the craft. In fact I could write an entire book revolving around the benefits of the practice. That is not the point of this book, however, so I will just state that it boosts the immune system, keeps the muscles flexible, healthy, and strong and relieves all kinds of aches and pains that lead to chronic conditions. Massage Envy has great rates and more than capable therapist on staff. With over 800 locations by the end of the year find the one nearest you.
6- Get Rested
Often times we get so caught up in what we are doing in life that we completely forget to just befrom time to time. Rest is just as important for the body as working out. Any athlete knows this. They call it recuperation and know just how vital it is. If you have ever worked out strenuously for any period of time, you know that the body and mind get worn out. Sleep is one of the most efficient ways to get rest. In our culture though we all sleep, very few of us sleep well, or for correct periods of time. Tonight before you go drift off to sleep relax your body from your feet to the head. Then bring into mind a time in your life in which you had great relaxation and peace. Stay with that image as long as possible, preferably until you fall a sleep. Whenever I use this method I get the best rest.
7- Find A Physical Hobby
Everyday I council people on their physical well being in my work as a massage therapist. The most common deterrent for making exercise a priority is monotony. One of the easiest ways to get healthy, and avoid boredom is to adopt a physical hobby. I do not know a single Yogi who is not completely in love with their practice, and this is in part because it is not only their lifestyle, but also their hobby. My top recommendations for activities to try are: 1.Kayaking 2.Surfing 3.Hiking 4.Bicycling 5.Basketball 6.Football 7.And Mandy’s favorite Roller Skating We avoid working out, occupying our time with other activities that require less effort and are more likely to offer immediate gratification. Spending your time exercising in ways that you enjoy will increase the likelihood of habitual physical activity, therefore leading to a healthier state of being.
8- Set a big hairy audacious goal
While losing 30 pounds has been an ambition of mine, the idea of dieting, and long boring workouts just wasn’t worth it. However when I decided my 2010 fitness goal is to run the Las Vegas Marathon in 4.5 hours or less it suddenly seemed worth every ounce of energy I would have to spend. A goal like this is exciting and something that very few people will ever attempt to do Everyday I can’t help but think of how exciting it will be to make that final stretch to the finish line; watching the clock; working for every second of time; crossing the finish line victoriously. Do the same in your life. It doesn’t have to be a marathon maybe just a half marathon or maybe you want to try a triathlon, or maybe climbing a mountain? Whatever it is, set the goal, focus on the picture of its accomplishment and get to work. I promise you that it will be worth it. FYI, the recommendations above may be outlandish to you right now. That is what makes them audacious and you a champion. You can achieve anything you want to achieve.
9 Drink Your Red Wine
Red wine contains reservatrol, which is a heart healthy antioxidant. Obviously this doesn’t mean consuming a bottle a night, but drinking a glass of red wine with dinner is both relaxing and healthy.
10- Eat your Fruits and Veggies Before Meals
Fruit and vegetables not only have high concentrations of vitamins and minerals, nutrients grains and meats don’t have, but they also are heavy in water. This helps us rehydrate our bodies throughout our day and fill the stomach before meals. A fuller stomach before we begin eating leads to less calorie intake and a thinner waste line.
11-Surround Yourself With the Things You Love
We all have things that we own and enjoy having around. Surround yourself with these things more often. Making your life your sanctuary is a great start to creating the life you want in 2010. Have things you enjoy on your desk at work, in your car and at home. This helps to keep your mood elevated and stress to a minimum when things are really demanding. This happens to everyone no matter how powerful we feel sometimes.
12- Light More Candles
Candles are a special tool women have had figured out for centuries, but most guys act like Frankenstein about. Candles have an amazing way of clearing our minds, as well as making our environment feel extra special. In many metaphysical traditions candles are used to burn off stagnant energy, and increase the flow- positive life force. Ladies one suggestion as a favor for us men, only use one scent at a time. Too many smells can cause congestion in the head and defeat the purpose of clearing your loved one’s mind and creating relaxation in the home.
13- Hydrate First In the Morning
Our body needs water more than almost any other element in order to operate properly. When we are properly hydrated our body functions wonderfully and leads to increased energy and better moods. However, most of our lives we wake up dehydrated first thing in the morning, which means we wake up lethargic. So we throw on a pot of coffee or grab an energy drink on the way out the door. We just spent 8 hours, if we are lucky, sweating away under the covers losing 1-5 pounds of water weight and then we drink the diuretic, caffeine, which pushes even more water out of our system. So once our caffeine buzz wears off we crash even harder because we are dehydrated even more. I recommend before drinking your morning coffee drinking 24-32 ounces of fresh and clean water see how your body feels after this ritual and I will promise great results.
14- Water Weed Repeat
Our physical bodies and environments are like gardens; they are absolutely gorgeous until we stop paying attention to them. When we neglect them we often find that they have become overgrown and out of our control. Simply making sure, that daily, you are feeding your environment and body correctly with high-energy nourishment can make a huge difference. It is also important to clear out the thoughts, feelings and actions that pop up as weeds of negativity and overgrowth. The physical areas of life to keep watch over are. 1.Diet/Exercise 2.The Home 3.The Car 4.Your Workspace Take some time to notice what you feel like in these environments and ask yourself what needs to be added or removed so that you feel better in these places.
15-Make A Chore List and Stick To It
This is probably the least exciting recommendation on the list, but the rewards of a clean house can be immeasurable. Cleaning the house daily moves the energy around and clears stagnancy. It also is good for clearing stagnancy inside of you that comes from a lack of discipline. Everyone feels better in a clean environment, and the reward of mental clearness it provides is absolutely amazing. I recommend a thorough cleaning once a week with daily touch ups. Even 15 minutes of up-keep a day will change your environment and create more happiness.
The ancient Chinese believed that Chi or Qi (energy) moved through our bodies along Meridian Lines (specific pathways). As long as this energy was able to move freely, our bodies would be in good health; but if these pathways get blocked, the energy cannot move and disease and disorder occurs. Acupuncture helps to rid the body of these blockages and restore normal function to the body. Acupuncture is also is used to ease muscular tension. Whether your muscles ache, your body feels not at ease or you just need to relax; Acupuncture is a great, natural way to help your body.
17-etting Mercury Fillings Replaced
Mercury is the most toxic, non-radioactive heavy metal on this planet. The World Health Organization estimates that the mercury exposure in Amalgam (silver) fillings may be 6-7 times the amount in fish. The W.H.O. also states that there is no “safe” level of mercury. Mercury exposure, no matter how small, is still not good for you. So, go get those fillings replaced.
18-An Ounce of Prevention a Pound of Cure
We’ve all heard the expression “An apple a day keeps the Doctor away.” This isn’t just about eating apples. Prevention is way better than rehabilitation. Make sure you eat your fruits and vegetables. Take a multi-vitamin. Go outside and get a little bit of sunshine and fresh air. Exercise daily (walking counts). Drink more water, less sugary filled drinks. Get a massage and/or acupuncture – even if you feel fine –
Eating organic is a great way to start the New Year and treat your body right. No need to fill your body with pesticides and chemicals that mask flavor and are not the suited for your body. Instead, eat organic fruits and vegetables that will provide you more true flavor and your body will love you for it. Not only is organic good for you, but it’s also great for local farming and better for the environment.
20-Supplement Your Diet-
Most people think that if they just “eat right” or “eat a variety of foods” then they will be able to obtain the proper amount of Vitamins and Minerals that their body requires to function at its highest potential. However, the truth is, most people simply won’t eat the variety of foods that their body truly needs. Even if you were to consume an optimum amount and variety of fruits and vegetables, our soil isn’t what it once was. It doesn’t contain the amount of nutrients that it used to. And most people purchase their food at a large chain grocery store in which most produce is picked way before its time; therefore, drastically lowering the amount of nutrients available in each bite. Taking a multi-vitamin daily one way to help your body get the vitamins and minerals it needs.
To me the mental pillar is the most important pillar other than the spiritual pillar. All true change happens when we change our mind. Everything ever created was first created in thought before it was brought to the physical world. This means your relationships, your happiness, your body, and your financial status, can all be changed, and only be changed through this pillar. Getting the right attitude. Harnessing and fine tuning our power of imagination, memory, focus, and intuition is of the upmost importance when moving to higher levels in life.
21-Read A classic A month
This has always been the hardest habit for me to create in the Mental pillar of my life. For some reason, reading fiction stories has always been difficult for me. That was until I picked up the essential writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and read the Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, and began to see how some of the greatest philosophers put their great works in story form to further discuss and exemplify the effects of their ideas to their readers. Soaking up these ideas allows us to put our own thoughts and philosophies into action.
22- Read a Personal Development Book A Month
Whatever you are focused on developing the most of this year there is certainly a book that can help you gain new ideas or skills. I have some of these listed on my website, my favorites being The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy and PsychoCybernetics by Maxwell Maltz, as they cover all areas of life not just single pillars. Feed your mind this year and you will most certainly see results.
23- Break Habits
Make a list of habits you currently have and want to break. I recommend listing six you want to defeat this year. Once these are listed, put them in order from easiest to most difficult to break, and get to work immediately on number one. As soon as you know you have conquered this habit go onto the next one. Just keep in mind that some practices are sneaky and even when you think you have it beaten it will creep back in. Here is my list: 1.Eating out (healthier eating takes place at home) 2.Erratic sleeping schedule 3.Leaving projects unfinished 4.Leaving lights on in rooms I don’t need them 5.Watching TV 6.Eating high carb foods
24- Create A Daily Completion List
We have all created to do lists in our life. However I know very few people who ever really complete these lists. So here is my twist to it, every night before you go to sleep write down 6 things you must complete tomorrow to move closer to your vision. Committing to just 6 things a day may sound small to you but over an entire year it is 1,560 tasks brining you closer to what you want in life, which is not a small feat at all. Stick with 6 to start but as you get more proficient with your completion lists, you may just find that you can handle 10-20 a day. Great job warrior!!!
25- Create Discipline Daily
The only reason we do not have the life we desire at this point is either we haven’t yet attained the energy to accomplish it, or we haven’t learned how to channel the energy properly towards our goal. Both take discipline to overcome so I recommend a daily discipline ritual that will both gather energy and sharpen your ability to channel the energy. The following outline is an example of my routine, but you should change it to accommodate your life and goals. 6am- wake up 6:15-6:45 meditate 6:45-7:00 visualization of completion list 7:00-8:00 workout 8:30 start work 11pm bedtime When I follow this routine I feel that my day is going to go my way from the start, which brews confidence and discipline
26- Create Habits
Much like breaking habits, we all have habits that we want to instill in our lives. Regardless of the six habits you create, make sure that they are designed around what you want and not the desires of others. Only the habits we create for ourselves in life have any real staying power. Here is my list: 1.Eat a salad before dinner every night 2.Car Maintenance Schedule 3.Meditate 4.Workout 6 times a week 5.Clean House Daily 6.Smiling at everyone I meet
27- Visualize Your Day Of Success
As stated in 24, creating a completion list for your daily goals is a very important step in your routine. On top of creating this, I like to take 15-30 minutes every morning to visualize the completion of each of my tasks, and organize the order in which everything needs to be accomplished during the day. Taking into account the appointments I have scheduled for the business, and personal time. Essentially I do my best to decide how I want my day to play out before it even begins. This is not a solid path I am choosing to take for the day but a preferred path. Things always pop up in life but knowing what needs to be done allows me to not to fall off track when complications arise.
28-1 week no excuses
Stop making excuses for one week. Trust me even the most successful people in the world make excuses from time to time. They may blame employees or business partners but the excuse is still there. See if you can take enough control of your life to not make an excuse for a week. This means that if you fail at something in your life, own up to it. If you didn’t stick with one of your goals, take responsibility for that as well. When we cut excuses out of our life we are no longer able to side step our responsibilities. This leads to greater control over our every day experience.
29-Watch the Mind
Have you ever sat quietly at night head racing wondering if maybe you have ADD, I know I sure have in fact I think Mandy may be looking for a doctor to get me rydlan(just joking). We all have times where our mind wanders creating new opportunities so that we don’t have to complete obligations even taking us away from something we really want to accomplish. Using the completion list is one way to master this mind wandering, but also realizing why your mind is racing is important. Are you looking for easier ways around an obstacle or just doubting your abilities all together. When the mind starts racing pay attention to where it goes and find out what you can do about it.
Along with so many people have ADD a lot of us have ASD (attentions surplus disorder) for things that we don’t want. Have you ever found yourself arguing with someone in your own head? I know I have. We have a tendency to spend more time on negative though patterns than on positive ones. We often put more importance on our interpretation of what a person is saying than the actual message that the person is trying to convey. Be aware of your negative thoughts and make an effort to replace them with positive views.
One of my favorite songs is Remember the Name by Fort Minor. The opening line is, “This is 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain, and 100% reason to remember the name.” I have found that the pain in my life lies in consistently doing the mundane tasks that comprise success. Becoming successful may not be something that is easy to come by, but the process is simple. Willingly do the tasks that you don’t enjoy completing. Develop this discipline and the rewards will eventually pay off. This is why it is important to believe that what you are currently doing in the present moment is essential to the life that you desire to create. Many obstacles will attempt to cloud your confidence in your ability to be successful, but once you have solidified the vision of the life you want and are emotionally committed, everything in your life will changeNomatter how weak, or tired you begin to feel you will find the motivation to keep going and accomplish your dreams.
32- Make your emotional payments-
As far as I am concerned, emotion is the language and currency of the spiritual world. Nothing in the world is more powerful than an idea who’s time has come, especially when it is mixed with emotion. Every time we get excited about something, passionately, and enthusiastically embracing it magic begins to happen. Make 2010 a magical year by putting emotion behind everything you do.
33- Take time to think-
We all have habituated ways of doing things, everything from tying our shoes to the type of food we like. Have you ever in your life stopped and asked yourself why you did something that you do? I am not talking about ridiculing a bad habit you have, but what is it about burritos you do or do not like? Why do you like the shoes that you like? Take time to look at your preferences in life, think about them, and ask the question what do I or don’t I like about it. Also take the time to ask more penetrating questions. If you like burritos, what is the perfect combination of meat beans and rice, in quantity and flavor? Why ask? It sharpens the mind, and allows our reasoning factors to become fine tuned.
34- Become a Warrior
There are two types of people in this world Warriors and everyone else. A warrior fights for what they believe in day in and day out, knowing that the only thing of any importance is the battle he is fighting today. Do you know someone who lets their career and relationships unfold as they will, or do they intentionally go after their desired result? Do they work towards their purpose every day fighting for its manifestation, not so they can be rewarded but just because it is what they have to do? I am sure you can tell who the warrior is in each scenario. The road may be tough, warrior, but remember, “the brave may not live for ever but the peasants will never enjoy the opportunity called life.”
35- Your Personality Type
There are four different measurements in the MyersBriggs personality test. Each combination of the measurements makes up a certain personality type. This combination is a huge key to how you process your world and when you learn more about your personality type the world opens up. For me I found that once I took the test I finally understood which window to look out of and I began understanding how to relate to others by picking up their type as well. The 4 measurements are: Extroverted to Introverted Intuitive to Sensory Feeling to Thinking Perceiving to Judging
Taking the test will enhance your knowledge of how you interpret and respond to your surroundings.
36- Do what lights you up-
As I state above about success it is hard work and, often times, a little boring. This is why we must do the things that make us joyful. Nothing lights me up more than to help people live more inspired lives. It is an extraordinary feeling and it is worth all of the long hours of writing and planning. I also love seeing my wife, Mandy, smile. Doing so makes me laugh and enjoy life more. Life is too short to not be fully involved in that which gives you reason to live. When you figure this out you will not only be unstoppable but happy as well.
37- What Is Depression?
Depression is an evil feeling of helplessness that can be extremely hard to climb out of. For this reason I want to share with you what makes us depressed and it is really quite simple. Whenever you feel that the present moment is out of alignment with what should be, and you do not see the future changing we become depressed. Of course it is disheartening to not be living the life you planned out. However, the only thing we can change is what we expect to have happen. If you are feeling depressed ask yourself what you want in your life. Then ask what it would take to make your situation align with it. Of course this doesn’t always work when another person is involved (break ups, lay offs, etc.). The best thing we can do in these situations is release the expectations we previously had.
38- Pay attention or Pay with Pain-
Our attention is the greatest thing we can ever invest into anything. If you want a good relationship, business, or higher mental and emotional control you must start by paying more attention to what you love. Pain kicks in big time when we decide we are going to go outside of our normal box without paying more attention to what we are doing. So just remember Pay attention, or pay with pain.
39-Turn it off to Turn on
Various technological sources (televisions, Facebook, Youtube, among others) all steal hours of productive time from many Americans every day. It also throws us into a trance state in which we lose vital energy. Now I know that you want to unwind after work or watch the game etc. I will guarantee you however that if you turn of f the TV and read a good book, or spend time with you family, or work on your life’s work you will find yourself full of energy. When this happens you are like an energy coil. Why unwind when you could get charged up?
40- Turn you Thoughts into Feelings Then Act
Before anything happens in the physical world thought and feeling must enter into it. We must first think of what it is that is going to happen, and feel that now is the time to accomplish it. So if you really want to accomplish a task, think of all of the positive and great results that will come from doing it and really align your emotions with it. I guarantee that in a matter of moments you will be well on your way to accomplishing what you have set out for yourself.
Spirituality is one of the hardest words in the world to define. This is because it has no physical presence. For the purpose of this list spirituality is your connection to your creative source, and that which the creative source has created. Whether you call it God, Universe, Higher Mind, is not of importance, this section is for everyone.
41-Find Peace in Breathing
Breathing is a vital function no one would deny, however very few of us pay much attention to our breathing. Breathing deeply oxygenates the body and brain and relieves tension and stress in the Body and Mind. Next time you are feeling tired or stressed take 60 seconds and close your eyes, breath slowly and deeply. I guarantee you will feel more alive and less stressed.
42- The Gift that is The Present
The past is history, the future a mystery, and the now is a gift that is why we call it the present. The only thing that is guaranteed in life is change and the present moment we are living in. If you haven’t already read it I highly recommend reading the Power of Now from Eckhart Tolle. This book has changed many people I knows life to include mine. Next time you are feeling anxious or nervous ask yourself what you could do in this moment to ease the worry and anxiety, it works every time.
43- We all have flow in life
So many of us however try to either fight the flow or live in a different flow. All of our flows are different and so trying to live someone else’s doesn’t ever work. I used to think that I needed to speed up or slowdown depending on who I was around or working with. What I realized is that when I am in my flow and someone or something else is in flow a harmony happens that creates amazing moments. Next time you are driving just attempt to feel the flow of the traffic and you will see how it works.
44- Clear your Mind
Every day we are bombarded with information, most of it of no relevance or significance to the path we have chosen. When we stop and clear our mind through breathing and focus we stop the world of information and step into the world of intuition. The more often you life in your senses and intuition the easier life becomes.
45- Take up Meditation
Some people use mental imagery, others mantras, and others prayer. Whatever works best for you I suggest doing it for 30 minutes a day at least. It creates spiritual connection and mental diciplinebetter than possibly any other practice I know of. I am working on several meditation programs as I am writing this but to start with I suggest closing your eyes and choosing a phrase that means something to you. Repeat the phrase mentally with your eyes closed. If you lose focus that is fine just bring your attention back to it and continue for thirty minutes. One of my favorite affirmations is “everything is the universe guiding me on my path” it just reminds me that I am being aided.
46- Take a week of Full responsibility Much Like a week of no excuses a week of full responsibility can be an absolutely amazing opportunity. This means full responsibility for everything as if the outside world is a mirror your inside world. If you step outside and it is cloudy, rainy, sunny, snowing whatever it is. You will ask yourself, what about me is cloudy today? If someone cuts you off on the freeway, ask yourself, what haven’t I seen or where am I being inconsiderate? Doing this for an entire week will give you a different outlook on what is happening and you may even find yourself starting to clean out some of your old judgmental patterns. 47- Faith in Action It is said that when Moses was leading the Israelites, they came across a period of no rain. When the people came to Moses, he told them to pray for rain and it would come. The rain didn’t come and the people even more worried came back to Moses, and he asked them where the ditches were at the catch the rain. When they dug the ditches the rain came. This is how the universe works, praying or intending for something to come into your life and then sitting on your couch is not a prayer at all. Show the universe you have faith in it bringing you what you desire by getting out there and creating a place for it to appear. 48- Live in Wonder Do you know how the pyramids were built, or how the Grand Canyon came into existence, or even how the earth came to be? We live in a world that is full of wondrous things and so often we are looking for why they are what they are that we forget to just be in awe at their amazing nature. When we live in awe of what is around us we begin to show life the respect it deserves and, from my experience, life begins to respect us back.
Gaia is a name given to the earth by scientists who see Earth as a living entity. They look at the earth with the animals, humans, plants, minerals, and all of her magnificence, and find a living breathing ever changing entity. The seasons come and go, the rivers are alive and even our volcanoes are here to create new land. This is not a hippy thought, just check outside your window at how alive the earth actually is. Now and begin to live with the harmony of the earth recycle your recyclables turn out the light when not in the room etc.
Everything we do in our lives should be for our personal evolution and expansion. Some people get thrown off and think that I am saying we should be selfish, but this is not what I am saying. The main goal of life is harmony, peace and Joy, so expanding and evolving means moving towards harmony, peace, and joy. Make every day about aligning yourself with these goals and your evolution will move forward everyday.
51- Live Above and Below
There are two different schools of spiritual thought, one wants to ascend and get to heaven, the other wants to stay right here and believes we can change this realm into heaven. So which way is right? In my opinion both are correct, connecting with the spirit world that is void of form is a powerful and enlightening practice. However I don’t think that spirit put us into physical form so that we would try to escape. Enjoying our life and doing and having the things that bring us peace, joy, and a sense of purpose also creates a more spiritually fulfilling life. Live in the world and play full on, just don’t get caught up in your physical nature.
52- Set spiritual attentions
Both prayer and meditation are great place to start your day. A powerful practice for me is to decide what I spiritually want to be early in the day. Do I want to manifest the spiritual nature of love joy and peace in my life? Typically a good place to start I would say. Every morning when you wake up take some time to begin to feel the love that is inside you and hold onto that feeling throughout your day. I guarantee you the reward is in the feeling, but the world will melt for you.
53- Sin= Missing the Mark
Sin is an ancient Greek word meaning to miss the target or point. To me the point of living is contribution, love, peace, joy and abundance. Each of which can be lived day in and day out. It is when we are not in these places that we are unhappy and full of anger depression and frustration and that is definitely missing the point of our life.
54- Take time to watch
Every single day of our lives we have millions of thoughts running through our brains like horses on a track. These are habituated ways of thinking and we don’t even realize that they are preprogrammed and have just as much real impact as we let them have. Take a few moments every day and just sit quietly letting the thoughts go where they may. Don’t condemn them and don’t ride with them, just sit patiently and observe the thoughts. You may become interested in where these thoughts actually came from.
55- Sit quietly
Times of quiet can be the most influential times in our life. Pick a period of time say 1 hour or maybe an entire day or week, to just be quiet. Go about your daily tasks but don’t engage in conversation unless absolutely necessary. Let your spouse, loved ones, and kids know what you are doing, and turn off the telephone. The first bit of this will obviously be difficult but after a short while the mind will quiet and your mind will find clarity.
56- Limit the labels
No matter what you say you are, you are not that. What you say you are is merely a description of what you have or do. This has very little to do with who you are as a spiritual being. Try this experiment out write down a list of who you think you are. Wife, Husband, Father, Mother, Doctor, Lawyer, CEO, CFO, and ask yourself. What would happen, if god forbid you were to lose the title, and you were no longer this thing? Would you still be alive? Build your identity on things you are at your core. Love, Life, Abundance, Joy, Peace are all great identities to hold. Keep in mind a spiritual being having a physical experience will still be a spiritual being when all the physicality ceases to exist.
57- Take a lessen from the Romance Languages
In many of the romance languages (Spanish, Italian, French etc.) they speak a little closer to the truth with their words. As an example they do not say I am happy, or unhappy, angry, hungry or the like. They say I have hunger, I have happiness etc. They understand even in their language that it is something that they feel no something that they are.
58- Allow what is to be what is
You may not enjoy what you are doing right this moment (though I hope you do since you are reading this e-book), but you can always choose to accept it. When we are in a state of acceptance we do not waste thought energy blaming what is and therefore we have more energy to fix what we need to fix. Acceptance is simply being at peace with the present moment and its events. If you can’t change it you should still be able to find the peace in it.
59- Do with enthusiasm
Eckhart Tolle, in his book “A New Earth” talks about enthusiasm as a mode of doing things in our life. He say when you mix a sense of purpose with enjoyment in the present moment you get enthusiasm. In my opinion a sense of purpose is a key ingredient to true happiness and I really hope that you are enjoying your sense of purpose. However be aware that when you become more focused on where the end of the game than what you are doing that enthusiasm for what you are doing can quickly turn into stress.
This financial section is focused on two things. Income as how we accumulate the green stuff, and the positive energy we receive from the work we do to produce income. Life is to short to not get emotionally and spiritually paid as well as financially. Make ‘10 the year that you find a way to create income doing what fulfills you!! (if you are not already)
I believe that everyone in the world has been affected by the recession of 2009, however those who have been affected the least are the ones who had multiple streams of income. Having multiple streams of income is a surefire way to create financial comfort in your life. I suggest starting with something you love and finding how you can make money on the side doing it.
61-Psychich Streams of Income
Life is far to short to be doing things you don’t enjoy, though sometimes it is necessary. Volunteering time and energy to the causes that are closest to your heart is a great way to inspire good will and positive energy flow to come in your direction. Find a cause you are passionate about and either contribute your time, energy or money. It is for a good cause and you will feel great about yourself.
62-Home Based Business
This is a way to get into business fairly cheaply and allows you to earn income and learn business on the fly. Be careful, however, there are many companies whose product and culture may not agree with your internal thermostat. If you are going down this path I highly suggest that you do your due diligence so that once you are an associate you can move forward quickly and easily.
63-Teach a class about what you love-
Do you love basket weaving, jewelry making, or maybe surfing? Teach a class about how to do it or set up a workshop for others who love doing it as well. If it is a hobby of yours anyway, it may just mean you will be spending a few hours on a Saturday doing what you love.
Financial Literacy is definitely lacking in our society. Even the people who manage our money are unable to see the future picture with clarity. However, there are plenty of good books out there that will teach you to understand finances. Get reading, get educated and start practicing your financial literacy. This will not only save you money but also create revenue for you as well.
65- Pay Your Self First
I am of the belief that 10% right off the top should go into your savings account. What would happen if you lost your job right now? What if you had a medical emergency? Do you have the ability to get through a 6-12 month period without any incoming cash flow? If not, get to work on building your savings.
66- Invest 10%
I am not a financial advisor but every consultant I know says you should invest at least 10% of your monthly income. I know that investing seems scary right now but this is when the greatest profits are made. Buying things that are cheap and will soon be worth more. Just don’t forget to pay yourself before you invest. You still need that cushion.
67-10% to education
Educating yourself is the greatest investment you will ever make. This doesn’t mean going to school necessarily, but investing into educational workshops on topics of financial interest for you is a powerful tool.
68- Study Business
Even if you don’t ever want to run your own business, understanding how a business operates is one of the most valuable financial undertakings you can ever make. Understanding concepts such as, Profit and loss, balance sheets, and marketing will allow you to make wise investments, as well as helping you understand other valuable things, it could even possibly help you to keep your job in the not to distant future.
69- Create a Mastermind group Do you have a group of people around you who allow you to bounce ideas off of them? People who will give you their honest opinion and are interested in your success, as well as you being involved in their success? A master- mind group is one of the most important financial structures you can ever build. 70- Your personality type Understanding how your personality type functions in the business world can be one of the best decisions you could ever make. As an example, my personality type, the ENTP, is called the visionary. By the nature of my personality I love to create new opportunities, and I am always thinking about what is possible. As I learned from personal experience trading stocks is not a good thing for me, I can see and justify whatever I want to see and that leads to losing a lot of money. Each personality type has its own weaknesses and strengths. Visit http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes1.htm to take your personality type test and learn more about your strengths and weaknesses.
Many of us want instant results when we start something, and are disappointed when this does not occur. Keep in mind that things take time, and becoming an overnight success is not feasible. Keep building your skills and comprehension, and soon huge results will manifest in your life.
72- The Wealth Canoe
When a canoe is beginning to be paddled it takes a lot of effort for very little result. The same can be said about building wealth. It takes time, effort and education. As you invest more and more into each of these areas you will begin to notice exponential growth in the speed in which you are moving. Keep moving and keep paddling, this is not about not quitting it is about not stopping or resting.
73- The Wealth Equation
If you are looking to create a product or service this might be the most powerful equation you will ever learn. Value xLeverage= Wealth. Providing value is the most important, and providing excellent value is essential, but if you never learn to reach more people with the same product, you are limiting the amount of wealth you will ever earn. Focus on value and once that is established focus on getting it out to as many people as possible.
74- Don’t Trade Time for Money
In the beginning we all have to have income and so trading our time for money is the easiest way to make ends meet. However most wealthy people do not ever trade time for money. As an example actors and actresses who make 20,000,000 a film make that whether they work 10 hours on the set or 1000 hours on the set. Find a way to leverage your time to create the most income, not leverage your income with your time.
75- Put Love into Your Work
Life is too short to not put love into your work. The more love you contribute to your work, the more people are positively affected by it. If you do not feel like you are capable of loving what you spend the majority of you waking hours doing, I have one piece of advice. Find something that you do love doing. We deserve to be happy and I do not know anything that makes a human happier than being in love with every area of their life. You may not make as much cash flow you’re your job this way but there are always opportunities to create other streams of income. Your family will appreciate having a loved one who is happy and loving what they do.
76- Be #1
This does not mean walk all over people to get to the top, it means doing what you love to the best of your ability going all out every day of your life. We live in a society where many try to duck safely behind mediocrity. Be a warrior and put yourself and your talent on the line. Most people try to tip toe safely to death, be bold and go for it.
77- Be Your Truth
Inside of each and every one of us there is a truth. This truth is what we came here to deliver to the world and I promise you that it is not a title. This truth is more spiritual than financial, however when you deliver it to the marketplace it is absolutely electrifying. The most common truths I see day in and day out are Love, Joy, Purpose, and Contribution these drive more people than anything else. For those of you who say that this is not what you see in life, I have one question. Think of the people who are happiest and most at peace in this world. Now ask yourself do they deliver one of these four truths daily? I bet you they do.
78- Research People who have your personality type
Learning more about the people who share similar personalities is a quick way to get inspiration. Great men and woman of history fall into all personality types and the ones who we share with often do things in ways that create an upwelling motivation. Richard Branson is one of the people who has inspired me a lot. When I am having a slow day I read a chapter from one of his books and it gets me pumped up. Find out who inspires you and who you can learn the most from. It makes huge differences in everyday life.
79- Money is a Magnifier
“Money doesn’t buy happiness” is a truth of huge regards. Money actually is a magnifier of your deepseated feelings. Many of us know people who are wealthy and not necessarily happy at all. They are stingy with their money and if you didn’t know any better you would think that they thought they didn’t have any. Well guess what? They may have it but they are scared to death of losing it. I know people who are mortified by the idea of being poor even though they have a worth of 30 million dollars. On the other hand I know people with 2 or 3 million dollars who are happy as clams and have a better lifestyle than the ones with 30 million. If you ask them about it they usually say, “hey I love having money but if I lose it I will still be happy.” Some of us doubt them but I am beginning to see their truth. Money makes us happier, or more paranoid it magnifies whatever we are feeling.
There are five different levels of relationships that concern our development. The first is our relationship to our creative source or our spirituality as covered in the spirituality section. The other four are our relationship with ourself, our relationship to our lover, our relationship to our family, and our relationship to our society and world. Relationships are the foundation of success. Work diligently on your relationships and anything is possible. Remember ABC Always Be Connecting, but remember you are always connected it just depends what connection you have.
80- Relate to your values
It is awfully strange to some people, but very few people truly understand why they have their values. They often look at what other people consider important and believe they should have the same value as well. We are raised in households where we are always told to live up to others expectations. This is a time in your life in which asking yourself what is actually important to you is vital. Look at the things that have excited you since childhood. Make a list of the elements of great importance in your life. Things like family, friends, your job and your spirituality. Make a pledge to your self to stay true to what you value most, and make those articles your priority.
81- Relate to Your Lovers Values
As important as being true to yourself, is the ability to relate to your lover’s values. What is most important to your love may at this moment be the latest celebrity scandal. If this is true, then make learning about it a priority in your life, not because you personally care about the issue, but because you care about your lover. Likewise ladies, know your man’s sports teams. Show an interest in what the outcome of a game was, and when you have the opportunity, watch the game with him for a little while if that is what they desire.
82- Relate to Mother Earth
Go back to my write up on Gaia, and remember that the earth is a living and breathing entity. It is our job to take care of her. When we take care of the earth by recycling and responsible consumption we feel good about what we are doing. There are plenty of sites out there that can help us understand simple ways to relate to mother earth.
83- Engage fully
Whenever you are in a conversation, be fully engaged. That means both listening and talking. People like people who like them, and we determine how someone feels about us by how engaged they are in what is transpiring. Next time someone attempts to engage you in conversation and you really would rather not talk. Engage them back fully and see what transpires. Make sure that you listen fully and add input without changing the subject or running off on your own ideas. I guarantee people will look at you differently and be much more willing to converse with you when you have something you feel is important to say.
84- Have relationships on the Back of Giants
Do you know anyone in your life that is extremely talented at relationship building? The person who seems to know everyone and who people love and respect. Begin to take some time to model them with your own personality. People who have great relationships do things in certain ways no matter what their personality. They are usually more than willing to help as well. Ask someone for five minutes of his or her time and hold a conversation with them. Notice how they treat you. Next time you hold a conversation with someone do the same thing the results will be guaranteed.
85- Treat others as you would like to be treated
People mirror us when they go to converse. If you are aloof then you will notice others being more aloof. When we treat others well all of the time, we find people who treat us well and we begin to build solid relationships. Keep in mind the goal of relating is not to get something. The goal is to share something. Sharing kindness and love is much better than bitterness and aloofness.
86- Become who you would fall in love with-
Take 5 minutes and write out what you are looking for in friends, or a loved one. I have one question for you? Do you embody those traits? If you do, then you are probably already contributing to meaningful relationships. If you are missing one or two take this time to game plan on how you can work those into your daily relating. When you embody those traits fully, the people you are looking for will appear. Remember we are always in relationship with something. Make it a good one.
87- The Turd that Won’t flush
We all have someone in our life who irritates us no matter what. You know the person who has been around for a long time in your life and every time they show up your blood pressure shoots through the roof. They always make inappropriate comments or something about them is like nails on a chalkboard. Guess what? They are divine teachers attempting to teach you more patience and kindness. Begin treating these people with amazing kindness and always ask yourself: “What is it the Universe wants me to learn in this encounter? “ when you are in their presence. Your emotions will tell you, I promise.
88- Be Complete On Your Own
We all love the company of other people, but let me ask you something even more important. Do you love spending time with you? I’m not talking about being a recluse. I mean, can you spend an afternoon or morning all by yourself without turning on the radio or TV? Do you thoroughly enjoy just being with yourself? I am sure you can, but if not start working on what you love about yourself and show yourself some love from time to time. You are great. I promise you.
89- Move Away From Codependence
Being codependent gets a bad rap in our society as a disorder of perceived weakness. The truth is most of us display codependent thinking and acting. It shows up when you rely on your job to pay your bills or on a loved one to make you happy. When you become complete on your own more and more everyday we begin to achieve a state of independence where we do not rely on other people places or things to attain our identity. Just a note, if you think you need something you are using it as a crutch and that is codependent behavior.
90- Achieve Interdependence
Choose relationships in which the founding ground is a desire of the relationship. Two or more people who could function at a high level on their own create powerful relationships together. This is where Interdependence comes in to play. This is when the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, and cohesion and magic happens.
91- Stop looking at the lack
It seems that humans are naturally drawn to see what is missing in relationships. We see that someone else is more attractive, or another boss does more for their employees, or another mom was there more for her kids. Take some time and look at what you appreciate in a couple of relationships you have that may be a little strained at the moment. Doing this brings some perspective. It allows you to see what is there, not what is missing.
92- Stop Criticizing
We are all human and therefore we all have flaws. As Jesus said why do you notice the speck in someone else’s eye and not the log in your own. For years I have been overly critical of people and situations, however I know that criticizing people only makes them more angry or distant at the very least. Be a warrior for love and know that people are like you and only doing the best that they can.
93- Give Props
Every single person on this earth is more talented than me, in at least one regard. The same is true for you. We all love to hear that we are great at something, so tell the people that surround that you appreciate how talented they are at a specific skill. Make it a habit to give props to these people.
94- Listen Don’t Talk
The most interesting person in our world is our self. Whether it is a two year old or a 90 year old they all love to express themselves. Let other people do the expressing, you are guaranteed to learn something and you would be surprised who is an expert at what particular thing. Over the next week start a conversation with 5 acquaintances that revolves around them and what they love to do. Start with the quiet guy at the office. Sometimes the quiet ones are the ones we can learn the most from if we just shut up and listen.
95-Talk about others interests
As a massage therapist Mandy and I don’t really get to talk about ourselves much because our clients are there for themselves. However the clients love to talk about their own lives. It is amazing how much better my relationships are with some of my clients versus some of my loved ones. The reason is when I do open up my mouth with my clients I talk about what is important to them not me. This is a sure fire way of creating deeper bonds with people. People notice that you are listening but they know you were listening when you engage them about what is important to them.
96- Ask don’t Tell
I had a favorite client of mine once say “You know why I always ask you to do things for me Keegan?” and when I responded that I didn’t, she said “because I have no right to tell you what to do, when if I ask you will do it anyway.” The point being, unless completely necessary asking is just as powerful as telling except it gives people the option to either agree or disagree. When we agree we give our permission and once we give our permission we are much happier about doing something. Use the manners your mother taught you and ask nicely for things. This will improve the perception that people have of you.
97- Reframe Your History
Without a doubt we have all had experiences in our life that have left us scarred. One of the most powerful things we can do is to create a new relationship with these events. Regardless of what the situation was if we allow it to have a positive effect on our life it can. Take sometime to think about something that happened in your life that you wish wouldn’t have. Now follow what happened after the event took place. What good did you experience coming into your life that wouldn’t have, had you not had that experience? Do not cop out and say nothing either, something positive always comes from our setbacks if we just look at it clearly.
98-Find A Mentor or Coach
Every great achiever in life has had a mentor or coach that helped them through. Mentors and coaches can take us to higher levels than we ever thought we were capable of. Maker sure that your mentor is someone that has the level of success that you are choosing to create in your life and get trucking. Great achievers are outstanding givers they want you to be successful, focused, and on track and are more than willing to mentor a person dedicated to their own growth.
99- Be Self-Centered not Selfish
In order for our experience on this earth to continue we have to take care of ourselves. If you desire to reach new and higher planes of awareness and success in your life you must put yourself as the center of your life. Being self centered is about living your life to the fullest. Being selfish is about expecting me to live your way so you can live the fullest.
100- What you attend to most is what you love
This is hard to hear for some people but what we spend the majority of attention on is what we are showing love in our life. Happy and successful people give their love to being happy and successful. On the other hand we all know people (maybe even ourselves from time to time) that show a lot of love to their misery and depression. What we give attention and love sticks around, so if necessary change your attention focal point to the things you enjoy and care deeply about. You will be amazed how quickly the other stuff falls away.
101- Live, Laugh, Love, Enjoy, and Have a Sense of Purpose
The entire point of this e-book is about allowing you to have a better 2010 than 2009. Even if 2009 was a brilliant year for you, I believe that if you fully embrace the life you are give, laugh as often as possible, give your attention to the positive and have a deep seated sense of purpose than enjoyment will be yours. My prayer for everyone of you who read this book is as follows. “May the best of 2009 with all of its love, victories, and happiness be the worst of your 2010.” With Much love and Gratitude Keegan Burkholder and Mandy Kiley
