WHAT IS ARCHITECTURAL COLLEGE ?

The key features to be considered while designing an


architectural college are:

MAIN FEATURES
The site must have at least 10m per part time
student and at least 25m per full time student.
The campus must be free from pollution of
noise, smoke, odour and dust.
Good shaped site with possibility of extension.
College buildings are, as a rule,2-3 storey.
Access: entrance area and foyer with central
facilities.
Teaching areas divided according to type of
teaching and their space requirements.
General classrooms with 50-60m,lecture halls
with 100-200m space.

Usual sizes for lecture halls 100,150,200,300,500,600,800
seats . Theatres with up to 200 seats have a ceiling height
of 3.50m and are integrated into departmental buildings
if larger they are better in separate spaces.

LIBRARY
oA library is an organized collection of
information resources made accessible to
students for reference or borrowing. It
provides physical or digital access to
material, and may be a physical building
or room, or a virtual space, or both. A
library's collection can include books,
periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts,
films, maps, prints, documents,
microform, CDs, cassettes, videotapes,
DVDs, Blue-ray Discs, e-books, audio
books, databases, and other formats.

DRAWING STUDIOS
oRooms for life drawing , life painting and
modelling.
oAccommodated if possible in the attic facing
north with large windows (1/3 -1/4 floor of the
space) and if necessary, additional top lights.
oEach space requires 3.5-4.5 square meter,
depending on the size of drawing table.
oNature light is preferable and a north facing
studio is best to receive even day light. For
right handed people it is best if illumination
come from left.
o Artifical light should be at 500 lx ,with 1000
( from mounted drawing lamps or linear lamp
hung invariable positons above the long axies
of the table )at the drawing surface
