in their own secure environment.Introduction  Virtualization is the ability to run multiple virtual machines on a single part of hardware. The hardware runs software which enables you to install multiple operating system which are able to run simultaneously and independently. Each copy of an operating system is installed into a virtual machine.  Virtualization allows you to run multiple operating system in virtual machines on a single computer. 3 .

a virtual machine and its virtual hard disks can be considered a "container" that can be arbitrarily frozen. Why used?  The main objective of virtualization is to increased use of hardware resource and to reduce management and resources cost.  High availability  It improves scalability or flexibility to the network 4 . and transported between hosts. money and energy saved  Testing and disaster recovery :  Once installed.  Time. backed up. copied.

parallel ports etc  Today’s the most well known and widely used virtualization software are VMware oracle virtual box Microsoft virtual pc/Hyper-v (Microsoft os compatible only) 6 . serial ports.Virtual machine  A virtual machine is a collection of virtual hardware that creates a standard x86 or x64 PC environment that allows for the installation of a supported guest operating system.  Virtual machine are made up of a) b) c) d) e) virtual CPU virtual Hard disk RAM virtual network Adapters SCSI adapters.

7 .Two types of virtualization 1) Host OS Based Virtualization (Type-2 Hypervisor ) 2) Bare-metal Hypervisor (Type-1 Hypervisor ) 1) Host OS based virtualization A host-based virtualization systems requires an operating system (such as window or linux) to be installed on the computer.

The hypervisor is the operating system. NOTE: Hypervisor : virtualization software : also called virtual machine manager is a program that allows multiple operating system to share a single hardware host.2) Bare-metal Hypervisor (Type-1 Hypervisor ) A bare-metal hypervisor system does not require an operating system. 8 .

Installation Creating a Virtual Machine Let’s begin by opening VMware Workstation from the Start menu. you can type. 11 . “VMware” in the instant search field and select VMware Workstation from the list of programs (Figure 1). Alternatively.

Next. click File | New | Virtual Machine. A wizard appears to create a new virtual machine as shown in Figure 2. 12 .

Here we are using ISO image (Figure 3) 13 .Click “Next” and choose how you want to load Windows 7. You can load it from installation media (DVD) or you can use an ISO image.

14 . Click “Next” and enter the Windows 7 product key (Figure 4). select “Installer disc image file (ISO)” and browse to where your Windows 7 ISO image resides.Next.

You can simply accept the defaults and move forward in the installation (Figure 5). and enter a virtual machine name and choose a location for your virtual machine to reside. 15 .Click “Next”.

Click “Next” and accept (Figure 6) the default disk size of 40 GB. 16 . You can increase or decrease this size as you see fit.

you can add disks. serial ports. For example. and printers. You can also remove unnecessary hardware such as floppy drives and sound cards (Figure 8).Click “Next” and you can customize your virtual machine hardware prior to beginning the Windows 7 virtual machine Operating System (OS) load (Figure 7). Fig 7 Fig 8 17 .

relax.Click OK and Finish and Windows 7 begins to load (Figure 9). Since you entered the product key. Just sit back. and a Windows 7 virtual machine is installed. VMware Workstation enters an “Easy Install” mode. 18 .
