Old Testament is about Promises • God makes a series of good promises and then keeps them • The story of these promises and all the work God must go through to keep them is the story of the first part of the Bible .

Promises to Abraham • • • • Genesis 12:1 – 5 big promises 1. Bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you • 5. Make you a great nation 2. Make your name great and you will be a blessing • 4. Bless you 3. All people will be blessed through you .

Same promise about a vast number of descendants repeated to: • Abraham – at least 5 times • Isaac – Gen 26:4 • Jacob – Gen 28:14. 46:3 . 35:11.

What do you think this means? • And God remembered His promise .

When the Bible says – God remembered His promise – it means: • He is acting on His promise .

Exodus is a part of the continued story • Same people who were talked about in Genesis – Abraham’s family – are the main characters in Exodus • Jacob’s family go into Egypt – grandchildren and great – great grandchildren of Abraham .

Covenant • A word for a special kind of promise .
