Apex Instruments Overview

So what does Apex do?

Source sampling equipment
Our equipment is used to obtain a representative
sample of particulate matter from an air stream.

How did our market develop?

Miles stones that created our industry

US EPA Established December 2nd 1970
Clean Air Act December 31st 1970 (1977),(1990)
US EPA Method 5

What drives our Market?

Government Regulation

Recent events in the US:

April 2015 MATS (Mercury Air Toxics Standard)Compliance
September 2015 MACT (Maximum Achievable Control Technologies)Compliance

Recent regulatory movement worldwide:

-Minamoto Convention of Mercury as a Global Pollutant-EU developing mercury emissions testing (2016)-New Environmentally conscious government in India-

Why is government regulation is

driving our industry?

Social Responsibility
News release: 25 March 2014 | Geneva
7 million premature deaths annually linked to air pollution
- In new estimates released today, World Health Organization
reports that in 2012 around 7 million people died - one in eight of
total global deaths as a result of air pollution exposure. This
finding more than doubles previous estimates and confirms that
air pollution is now the worlds largest single environmental health
risk. Reducing air pollution could save millions of lives.

Introduction to Isokinetic Sampling

What is Isokinetic Sampling?

Isokinetic sampling is sampling when the
velocity at the nozzle opening is equal to the
velocity of the approaching gas stream

Introduction to Isokinetic Sampling

Why is Isokinetic Sampling important?
Over Isokinetics, the results will be biased
low since the larger particles break through
the air stream and bypass the nozzle.

Under Isokinetics, the results will be biased

high due to the inertia of the large particles.

100% Isokinetics, most accurate, not biased

for particle size. Vs=Vn

Insert the thermocouple and a mercury reference

thermometer into ice bath.
Allow the readings of both to stabilize, and record
Repeat this step twice after bringing devices to room
temperature
Repeat Steps c and d.
Calculate the average of the thermocouple readings and the
average of the reference thermometer readings. The
averages should differ by less than 1.5% of the absolute
temperature (K) for the stack thermocouple.
Repeat the same above using boiling water instead of ice

Additional calibration procedures are performed on the temperature display with

a thermocouple simulator
