Simple present

In the simple present, we have to use to

ask DO with I,you,we,they or DOES with
she,he,it. In this case do it´s an auxiliary.

To ask, this is correct structure :

Auxiliary + subject + verb + complement
For example:
Do you have brothers or sisters?

Do=auxiliary
You= subject
Have= verb
Brothers or sisters= complement

Note: In the simple present it´s necessary

to use DO or DOES , because without DO
or DOES isn´t simple present
Simple present with questions
information

For example:
• This is a common question

What do you do in your free time?

In my free time, I play soccer and chat
on line and read a book, etc.
Other examples:

• When you go out at weekends, where do

you go?
• Why do you like studying?

With these questions we have to answer

with our personal information.
Examples with Does:

We have to use does with he, she or it.

For example:

What does your father do?

• My father is a doctor. He works in a
individual hospital
• What Does your sister do after classes?
After classes, my sister goes to the cafe
with her friends.

Note: To answer positively in the simple

present with he, she or it we have to add
a “s” or “es” to final the verb.
for example:
She plays
He goes
Note: But to answer negatively in the simple
present, we have to put the verb in the
normal form.
For example:
My father doesn´t work now, because he
´s sick.

Note: The verb has to be in the normal

form, because to use doesn´t, the verb
doesn´t need the “s” like in this case.
Frequency Adverbs

• Always = siempre
• Usually = usualmente
• Often = A menudo
• Sometimes = algunas veces
• Hardly ever = casi nunca
• Never = nunca
We have to put frequency adverbs after the
subject and before the verb.

For example:
I usually get up late at weekends
My sister often cooks seafood

Note: only in two cases the order can

change.
Case 1: When we use the verb to be,
frequency adverbs go after the verb to be.

For example:
My mom is always at home
My brother-in-law is never at weekends

Case 2: People say sometimes I… 7 times

more often than I sometimes…
Some examples with frequency adverbs:

• I never watch TV in the morning

• I always watch TV shows in English
• My family often has dinner in front of the
TV
• My mother hardly ever rents movies at
weekends.
• My sister usually works in the afternoon
• Sometimes my cousins and I go out to the
disco or the cafe.
