The Widows Might

Scripture Reading
Mark 12:41-44
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the
people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast
in much.
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two
mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily
I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all
they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want
did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Introduction

10 Apples, 1 apple core, 3 to eat, 3 to trade for
clothing and shelter, 3 for miscellaneous needs
and 1 to show gratitude to God. Used 3 to eat,
3 for clothing and shelter, 3 for miscellaneous
needs but decided he need the 10th also.
Besides God had all the apples in the world. So
he ate the apple and gave God the core.
Jesus was watching as offering was collected
one day lets have a look at what He saw

Christ saw Giving

Mark 12:41
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld
how the people cast money into the treasury: and many
that were rich cast in much.
It was the Tuesday of Passion week, the week leading up to the
greatest act of giving. One of the last lessons that Christ taught
was about money and the giving of it and more importantly the
heart with which it is given.
Half of Christs teachings were about money, more than both
faith and prayer put together. Jesus knew the hearts of men,
Jesus saw how selfishness and covetousness motivated
the measure by which the people were giving.
Two occasions when possessions suddenly decrease, tax
season and when it time to set aside tithes and offerings.

Christ saw Giving

Mark 12:41
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and
beheld how the people cast money into the
treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
Christ emphasized giving because he knew that it
weakens selfishness and covetousness. A leg in a cast
weakens as a result of not being used but muscles
exercised strengthen.
In our hearts God has placed a desire live selflessly
but also in our hearts is selfishness. When we exercise
the gift of giving through the power of Holy Spirit
selflessness increases and selfishness diminishes.

Christ saw People

Mark 12:41
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and
beheld how the people cast money into the
treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
Jesus saw people whilst His disciples saw things,
possessions, money. Christ tried to draw their
attention to the people and more especially their
need. The need of a Saviour.
What do we see in the world today? What is drawing
our attention? What is it that is consuming our
resources, our time, our energy, our lives? Is it people
or things?

Christ saw People

Mark 12:41
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and
beheld how the people cast money into the treasury:
and many that were rich cast in much.
To the carnal nature wealth is measured by things,
possessions, cars, houses etc. The Christian measures
wealth by relationships. A relationship with Jesus, our
relationship with others.
Johnny wanted a video game. Mom said we cant afford
it. Johnny asked Mom, are you poor?, no Mom replied,
I have you and Billy, I am rich, Johnny replied, well sell
Billy and then you can by me the video game
Do we love people first or things?

Christ saw Sacrifice

Mark 12:42-43
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in
two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto
them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast
more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
Christ saw a widow who had nothing yet she was giving. Jesus saw
sacrifice, Christ noticed sacrifice.
Those who had much did not miss or feel the impact of there own
giving. In giving much they gave nothing. But in giving a little this
widow gave more than all who gave that day, combined.
Those who had much were still storing treasures where moth and
rust destroys. The poor widow was investing in eternity. Eternal
returns

Christ saw Might

Mark 12:43-44
43
And he called unto him his disciples, and saith
unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow
hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the
treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of
her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
Not only did Jesus see giving or people or sacrifice but Jesus
saw Might. The poor Widows might. The Widow, living from
hand to mouth, earning daily what she needed to live. In giving
the two mites she gave all that she had to survive!
The widow gave all her living from a heart overflowing with a
love for God, this was the Widows Might!

Conclusion

Because loved God the man descided to buy a
smaller car, live a simpler life he only used 2
apples for miscellaneous things and had two
apples to show his gratitude to God.
What will Jesus see today?
