The reasons why children of prisoners behave unwell in school and society; parental incarceration and child functioning, parentchild separation and insecure attachment, implications of changes in care arrangements, social-emotional and educational implication It describes how to apply choice theory with children of prisoners in seven ways which are through; 1. Education, 2. Identifying the relationship between behavior and consequences, 3. Individual counseling, 4. Group social skills training, 5. Modeling and role playing, 6. Mentoring 7. Family and school collaboration.

Theory that believes people are responsible for the choices they make in life. Believes that people are motivated by five basic needs, the need for survival, love and belonging, power, freedom and fun. Does not require the needs be met in a specific hierarchy like Maslow¶s Theory. Choice theory says people feel the need to respond to multiple needs concurrently. Love and belonging is a fundamental need because people are social creatures who need each other.
