Problem
Constipation
.May define as fewer than 3 bowel movement
per 1 week, this infers the passage of dry
hard stool or the passage of no stool.
.Fecal impaction: is a mass or collection of
hardened feces in the folds of the rectum.

Ways To Promote
Regular Defecation
o Eat More Fiber
- Fiber can be found in beans,fruits,vegetables and whole grains.
- Strive for 20-35 grams of fiber per day.

o Eat fewer low-fiber foods


- These include ice cream,cheese,meat,processed foods and
- Sugary foods such as soda and candy which can cause constipation.
o Drink more
- Drink at least 8 glasses per day to prevent constipation.
o Do exercise
- Regular exercise can help the patient develop regular defecation
pattern.
- A patient with weak abdominal and pelvic muscle maybe able to
strengthen them with the following isometric exercise.

o Provide Privacy
- Nurses should provide privacy for the patients during
defecation.
- However,they may need to stay with the weak
patients.
o Timing
- The patient should defecate when the urge is recognized
- Nurses should not interfere the defecation time with
other activities such as bathing.

o Reduce stress
- Stress can cause the large intestine to
spasm,leading to pain and
hard stool.
- We can reduce stress by doing yoga and
exercising.

mean that you move your bowel everyday.

defecation to prevent
illness from getting
worse.
