The Brain!!

Put this through your head!

THREE LAYERS!

Layer ONE: The Brain

Stem
The Brain Stem

7 main par ts:

•Medulla
•Pons
•Reticular Formation
Cerebellum
•Thalamus
•Pituitary Gland
•Midbrain
•Cerebellum
The Brain Stem

Cerebellum

The medulla is in charge

of regulating basic body
functions such as
breathing, blood pressure,
and heart rate.
The Brain Stem

The pons is in
charge of brain
Cerebellum
activity during
sleep, such as
dreaming.
The Brain Stem

The reticular
formation is
responsible for
keeping the mind
and body awake
Cerebellum and aware. The
nerve wires come
up from the spinal
cord through the
reticular formation
into the thalamus.
The Brain Stem
The thalamus is
not only in the
center of the brain,
but it is also the
main relay station
of the brain. All
the senses go
through the
thalamus, and it
helps process
Cerebellum everything going
on.
The Brain Stem

Controlled by the
hypothalamus. The
only endocrine
system structure in
your body that is in
Cerebellum the brain. The
pituitary gland
sends out hormones.
The Brain Stem

Cerebellum

The cerebellum
is in charge of
coordinated
movements.
The Brain Stem

The midbrain helps

Cerebellum process the auditory
and visual
information.

Layer TWO: The Limbic

System
The Limbic System
3 main
par ts:
•Hippocamp
us
•Amygdala
•Hypothala
mus
The Limbic System

The hippocampus is in charge of creating long term memories.

The Limbic System

The amygdala is in charge of emotion. The amygdala may

also be associated with memory for when we remember
something that is very emotional to us.
The Limbic System

The hypothalamus is important and in charge of keeping our body

temperature and fluid levels balanced. When the hypothalamus detects
an imbalance, it orders the body to tell our body what we need.
THREE LAYERS!

Layer THREE: The

Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex

4 main
par ts:
•Frontal
lobe
•Parietal
lobe
•Temporal
Lobe
•Occipital
lobe
The Cerebral Cortex
The frontal lobe is in charge of movement and thinking. This is where
our motor cortex is and our prefrontal cortex is. The motor cortex helps
control voluntary movements and the prefrontal cortex is used for
decision making.
The Cerebral Cortex
The parietal lobe is in charge of touch sensation. This is what helps us
feel things. This lobe also creates a map of your body so your brain
knows where the sensation is coming from.
The Cerebral Cortex

The temporal lobe is in charge of the auditory

processes. It also may be connected in storing
long term memories that have a auditory
connection.
The Cerebral Cortex
The occipital lobe is used for processing visual
information.
