many people for work.
• But very few in number.
• Got industrial goods
through the Baltic Sea.
• Adversely efected by
various events.

WORLD WAR 1
• Had a severe impact on the
industry.
• The Germans had control of the
Baltic Sea.
• The labour needed for the industry
was taken by the army.
• There were labour shortages and
small workshops were shut down.

• The army needed a
lot of food(mostly
grains) for the war.
• For the people of
the cities, bread
and flour became
scarce and riots
became common.
