Clinical-Epidemiological Investigation

of Kumri in goat-Banke-District-
Nepal-: 2063

Dr.Kedar Karki
Objective of Investigation:
 To ascertain the cause of
syndrome.
 Detection of microfilaria from
clinical case.
 To evaluate the change in
hematological parameter of clinical
case.
 To evaluate the effectiveness of
Diethylcarbamazin in treatment of
Methodology
 Clinical-epidemiological
observation.
 Treatment of affected flock.
 Morning blood collection in EDTA.
 Estimation of TLC,DLC,TEC
,Hb,PCV.
Background
 Goats above twelve months of age
mostly affected.
 Typical clinical signs in affected
goats were paralysis of one or both
fore/ hind limbs,
 paralysis of Lumber region
 In -coordination and swaying back
gait.

AGE/ANIMAL 1Yr/Above
CONDITION/ANIMAL Healthy
Result and Discussion
 Presence of microfilaria in 60% of blood
sample.
 Positive response to treatment.
(Mukhopadhay.S et.al 1996)
 Hematological finding: ANAEMIA.
 EOSINOPHILIA.
 NEUTROPHILIA.
 LYMPHOCYTOSIS.
 DECEASE IN TOTAL R.B.C. COUNT.
 DECEASE IN TOTAL W.B.C. COUNT. (David
E. Anderson 2002)
Recommendation
 Seasonal Pattern of occurrence of
posterior paralytic symptom is caused
by cerebrospinal nematode Seteria spp,
 Prevalence of disease occur when
mosquito vectors are active.
 Can be treated and prevented by using
Diethylcarbamazin. (P. Ghalsasi et.al 7th
international Conference on goats,
France may 2000
 Use of ivermectine is contraindicated
during microfilaraemia stage ( Michel
Boussinesq et.al Filarial journal 2003)
