COLLAGE: Its name comes from the French verb coller,

to glue. The work of art is made by gluing things to
the surface. Collage became an art form during the
early 20th century of the Synthetic Cubist Period
(Modern Art) of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
MEDIUM/MEDIA (plural): In art, "medium" refers to the
substance the artist uses to create his or her artwork
(ex. paint, clay, markers, newspaper, etc.)
MIXED MEDIA: A technique involving the use of two or
more artistic media, such as ink and pastel or painting
and collage that are combined in a single composition.
COMPOSITION: is the placement or arrangement of
visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as
distinct from the subject of a work.

(Born in Spain: 1881-1973)

The first use of collage

in fine art came from
Pablo Picasso in 1912,
one example being "StillLife with Chair-Caning",
in which he used printed
oil-cloth that looked like
chair-caning, as well as a
rope encircling the
painting to form a frame.
