Network

Proposal

I. Statement
of the
Problem

General Problem:
Charity First Inc. still uses a manual
system for storing and sharing
important data which poses a lot of
threats to the company, the
disadvantages of not having a
computer network are:

Specific Problem:
Data

is hard to back-up
File sharing can be a hassle
Security over all Computers
is hard to maintain.

II. Objectives

Charity First Inc. is in need of a

network to aid in the problems that
the company is facing. The network
is constructed to accomplish specific
objectives of the company:
Network

the computers so that they

can share information and printers.
The network will enable the users to
retrieve, process, share, and store
files from any computer that is
connected to the network.

Data

Security: The
network provides data
security for all
computers by providing
an administrator to
minimize the risk of
unauthorized use of
computers.

III. General
Design
Process

In this project, the

proponents will design a
WIRED Local Area
Network for a small
incorporation of Charity
First which will build a
well secured computer
network.

The group decided to use star

topology that will enable all users on
the network to have equal access to all
other computer by the help of hub. All
the data on the star topology passes
through the central device before
reaching the intended destination. Hub
acts as a junction to connect different
nodes present in Star Network, and at
the same time it manages and controls
whole of the network.

IV. Network
Design Issues

Charity First Foundation Inc.

was formally registered at
the Securities and Exchange
Commission, as a non-profit
organization committed to
improving the quality of life
of the marginalized sectors of
the country through its four
main programs.

Charity First Inc. still

uses a manual system for
storing and sharing
important data which
poses a lot of threats to
the company.

Security Difficulties

Since there are already huge

number of people who are using
computer networking in sharing
some of their files and resources,
your security would be always at
risk. There might be illegal
activities that will occur that you
need to be aware and be careful all
the time.

Presence of Computer
Viruses and Other Malwares

There are instances that the stored

file you have in your gadget is
already destroyed because there are
already viruses that corrupt your file.
Hence you need to have regular
check-up on your gadget at the same
time to the stored files you have.

Lack of Independence
Since computer networking
is a process operated through
computers, people are
already relying more of the
works of the computer rather
than exerting an effort for
their works.

V. Lay Out Proposal

Figure 1.1: The grey lines

indicate physical, hard-wired
network cables.
PC can communicate and
share files with every other PC
on such a network by the use of
the hub. A printer attached to
one PC can be used by other PCs
on the networkif that printers
PC allows such use.

VI. Topology
Used

Star

networksare one of the most common

computer networktopologies. In its simplest
form, a star network consists of one central
switch, hubor computer, which acts as a
conduit to transmit messages. This consists of
a central node, to which all other nodes are
connected; this central node provides a
common connection point for all nodes
through a hub. In star topology, every node
(computer workstation or any other
peripheral) is connected to a central node
called a hub or switch.

The

switch is the server and the peripherals are

the clients. Thus, the hub and leaf nodes, and the
transmission lines between them, form a graph
with the topology of astar. If the central node
ispassive, the originating node must be able to
tolerate the reception of an echo of its own
transmission, delayed by the two-way
transmission time (i.e. to and from the central
node) plus any delay generated in the central
node. Anactivestar network has an active central
node that usually has the means to prevent echorelated problems.
